It was just a matter of time before Conservatives realize that the Republican Party of yesteryear is now but a dysfunctional amalgamation of selfishness, bad ideas, and hate. The Republican Party may no longer be salvageable, and Conservatives are starting to bolt, currently in drips, but maybe a gusher soon.

(12,265 posts)I am not totally sure he isn't setting up to run in 2020. I think he figures if Trump could win so could he, even with the baggage he has. I would guess is will run as and indy.

(37,428 posts)...and when Trump is no longer president, Joe will be back. Perhaps sooner.

(44,175 posts)Keep that in mind.
Additionally I sense his decision isn't just about Trump, it is also about the Republicans who defend every egregious thing Trump does and continue to deny Trump/Russia.

(3,363 posts)He's absolutely blasted Republicans and their cowardice and corruption over not standing up against Trump destroying the country and aligning with Russia.
He's fed up with how Republican leaders behave, more so than just Trump himself.

(37,428 posts)He is on the right, but doesn't like to be made to look a fool, and he sure doesn't like being blackmailed. There may be principle involved, but Joe is using his celebrity status for revenge against Trump as well as to try to get the GOP to look less stupid/corrupt.
Whether or not he ever gets around to changing his voter registration, he'll still be dining out with the same elites. Nothing much may have changed.

(7,422 posts)The definition shifts greatly according to state, region and time period. Many of today's moderates would be right-wing Republicans decades ago because of the rightward shift in American politics since the 1970s.

(44,175 posts)I assume that's pretty obvious given my reference to the Freedom Caucus.
I was alive and politically aware in the late 60's/early 70's so I'm fully cognizant of the rightward shift in America politics since then.

(7,422 posts)The Freedom Caucus is a group that in universal scope are out on the fringe next to numerous groups being watched by the SPLC and federal agencies. Dollars to doughnuts plenty of their caucus members were sympathetic to the Bundy clan.
Ask someone from the European Union to point to an American moderate and it's likely their finger would fall on a politico who could be labeled Clintonian or Third Way Democrats. They might go so far as to nod to our last POTUS.
Scarborough's "moderate" bona fides are slim to none in my admittedly worthless opinion. If he really valued the things he claimed -- especially those which "broke the deal" for him -- it wouldn't have taken this long to chase him off.
I think he has a more selfish angle in this aimed at helping his public profile, furthering his media career or something of the like. I don't think he's suddenly had a "come to Jesus" moment and rediscovery of conscience.

(54,770 posts)is even worse than a GOPer in a lot of respects.
Felt sorry for the guy last night, telling Colbert how being a musician has always been his dream. Then at the end of the show, with a big backing band, he sounds like a bunch of 12 year olds in the garage. Christ, he was awful.

(653 posts)Since the Bush II regime, fiasco and national embarrassment, "Independents" has largely been disgruntled Republicans who are ashamed to be associated w/the Republican party. Same mindset, same mentality, same ideology.
Joey is the same. He's worse, because he's a Bush-era Republican, aka Neo-Con, the worst of the worst.
I wouldn't spit or piss on him if he were on fire to save his life.
Yes, that is contempt you detect, because I find JS to be contemptible. Mika has wiggled her way into that as well, she's also contemptible at this point.

(7,422 posts)I noticed the web page on the link cut Scarborough's remarks before he got to the part where he said the GOP is no longer the party of Reagan because ol' Ronnie would never stand for racism or cooperating with our enemies. Those are both demonstrable lies.
Scarborough and his gal pal also tried to maintain Trump is now suddenly no longer the person he was for the last seven decades, a man they worked with in lockstep for the maximum amount of publicity for all involved. This is public relations garbage trying to maintain the momentum they got from their recent tiff with Trump.
