Maybe what Putin said was, "Yes, and I had to sit there for 45 minutes with Donald Trump."

That would have been enough to elicit the knowing eye roll from Merkel.

...Merkel has complained before about Putin's lecturing.

Merkel attempted an explanation of Putin's behavior. Her quote, reported in George Packer's December 2014 profile of Merkel in the New Yorker, is one of the most pithily succinct insights into Putin and the psychology of his 14-year reign that I have read:

"I understand why he has to do this — to prove he's a man," Merkel said. "He's afraid of his own weakness. Russia has nothing, no successful politics or economy. All they have is this."

That is why they try so hard to dismiss and intimidate her.

They are both insecure little bully boys who throw their weight around to cover up for the fact that they are anything but men.

They are exactly the opposite. They are weak men who have adopted authoritarian behaviors because they are afraid that the world will find out how truly powerless they are as human beings.

quantum chemistry.

Here is an explanation I found on Quora of the relationship between the two fields of research and practice:

****************
Quantum chemistry is an application of quantum physics. It’s mainly concerned with finding solutions to the multi-particle Schrodinger equation, almost exclusively through the use of computational models. (That’s pretty much the only way to proceed) This gives you approximate, but accurate electron wavefunctions, which can be used to predict how complex molecules behave and interact.

Quantum physics is also concerned with solving the multi-particle Schrodinger equation (among other things) but in a different context. Condensed matter physicists, rather than being concerned with individual molecules, look to solve for electron distributions in crystalline structures like graphene, or any number of solid structures. They aren’t typically concerned with reactions, rather with the physical properties of materials like thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity

The tools of both fields are very similar, but they differ in their application.
****************
****************

And here is another answer from Quora

****************
Like others have already pointed out, quantum chemistry is the application of quantum physics to chemistry. Which means that, instead of deducing/calculating/explaining the properties of molecules and compounds from macroscopic or estatistic theories and measurements, quantum chemistry explains chemical processes from first principles, that is from the quantum properties/behaviour of the atoms and their bindings into molecules.

Those quantum calculations and measurements are far from trivial and they requiere rather complex and heavy-duty computer modelling/analysis. The advantages are huge accuracy and a more detailed understanding of chemical processes, as well as consistent explanations for fenomena that in cases “standard macroscopic chemistry” cannot explain.

It's a pipeline that sabotages eastern European and Scandinavian security for German profits. Putin will be able to cut off gas to countries individually as a political weapon, deprive Ukraine of needed transit fees, and snoop around Scandinavian waters under the pretext of inspecting the pipeline.

Merkel is Putin's best friend. Everyone in this thread has extrapolated a brief gif image to define a much more complex relationship.

Merkel is a PhD scientist and skilled speaker and politician.
She's going to/has been kicking Putin's ass. So is Macron. They will punish Trump too. Hopefully the US can get him out before that happens.
