(1,684 posts)The smaller, but more intense swirl (as shown by the coloring), entering the far eastern edge of the satellite shot, is the potential tropical storm. The upper air swirl is what may pull the tropical storm to the north (edited to add: and it also will increase the shear, which is less favorable for intensification).

I remember TS Don in 2011.
TS Don was the biggest whimp!!!! It was such as whimp that everyone in Texas wanted to retire the name. It was the storm that was killed by a drought. It died just as it was coming ashore at Brownsville. I think Brownsville got 1/2 inch of rain out of the thing.
