A&P accounting jobs, at Montvale headquarters, to be outsourced (supermarket chain)
Accounting employees at The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) headquarters in Montvale will lose their jobs over the next six months due to a decision by the company to outsource the work, a company spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday.
The company did not disclose the number of affected employees, but the spokeswoman, Marcy Connor, said reports that 100-150 people would be laid off were "exaggerated." About 700 people work at the headquarters.
The affected employees were informed of the company's decision Tuesday afternoon, Connor said. Employees reportedly were told A&P had made a deal with outsourcing specialist Wipro to move the jobs to India.
A&P on Tuesday evening issued a statement saying the decision was "part of an ongoing effort to improve our business operations." The transition to outsourcing is expected to be completed by the end of February, 2013.
