Why there can be no compromise with Trump supporters?
Because we cannot permit ourselves to surrender to the worst angels of our nature.
We cannot permit ourselves to sink to the depths of depravity that many of these people exhibit.
We must fight with the better angels of our nature. We must stand firm.
Although they are not always the most popular positions, we must fight for equality and against discrimination. We do not believe in putting fellow humans in a box to be labelled as different and non-deserving. We believe everyone should be able to see a doctor if they are not well. We do not believe that wealth makes you superior to everyone else. We believe we are all in this boat together. We cannot agree with those that wish to overturn the boat and then refuse to give life preservers to the most poor and the most needy.
Granted, those may be difficult positions for many conservatives to take. It is much easier to talk about the Sermon on the Mount than to actually practice it. It is much easier to simplify matters to some type of irrational and cruel solution. For example: "We need to build a wall to keep these illegal aliens out."... "They are committing most of the crimes"... "We just need to turn their desert to glass and end it quickly". Those are not acceptable solutions. They are irrational, bordering on insanity.
We have no choice. We have not been given a choice. We cannot compromise with such cruel and inhumane positions from any political Party. We cannot choose war over peace. Arrogance over humility. Lies over the truth. Some things are simply unacceptable to our consciences. We do not accept divisiveness as a viable solution.
We cannot accept ideas and positions that carry the stench of hatred and racism. We cannot surrender to those ideas that are against the better angels of our nature.
