So, there appear to be people who are dissatisfied with the Democratic Party. After all, we lost the presidency and even the Senate in 2017, so that's sort of natural. But where do people go to group together and separate themselves from the established party and distinguish themselves from it? And what will be the effect of such splinter groups on the 2018 mid-term elections? It's hard to say, really, and depends on how many people abandon the traditional Democratic Party and join one of the following existing and potentially existing new parties:
Justice Democrats - This group exists and is both endorsing candidates for 2018 and trying to build its ranks.
Our Revolution - Another existing splinter party, mostly made up of Bernie Sanders supporters from 2016. They're also endorsing candidates and building their organization.
The two groups above appear to be the most organized splinter groups, but not everyone who is feeling queasy about the original Democratic Party will necessarily find a home for their specific points of view in those two groups. Here are some conceptual parties that might be formed to gather others into their folds to focus on specific goals. Each, of course, will have unique platforms, distinct from seemingly related parties.
One Ideal Person; One Ideal Party is the call to action:
Progressive Democratic Party of America
American Democratic Progressive Party
Democratic Party Of America for Progress
Progress Democrats USA
Environmentalist Democratic Party of America
American Democratic Environmentalist Party
Environmental American Democratic Party
USA Environment Democrats
Environment Democrats of America
American Democrats for Economic Justice
Economic Justice Democratic Party of America
Democratic Economic Justice Party USA
American Single Payer Democratic Health Party
American Democrats for Single Payer Healthcare
United Single Payer Healthcare Democratic Caucus
Democratic Universal Healthcare Party USA
There could be more, of course. And some of the ones listed might splinter again. New political parties have a tendency to do that. While it might seem Monty Pythonesque, this is how political splinter groups evolve and change. In any case, each party could field its own candidates for primary elections, leaving the Republicans to be hopelessly united and boring.
