GOP Infighting Erupts Over Healthcare Bill

Senate Republicans are struggling mightily to find a path forward for their Obamacare repeal bill, with infighting between moderates and conservatives threatening to create an impasse heading into the July Fourth recess.

GOP leaders say they want to have an agreement on changes to the legislation by Friday, but senators said they made virtually no progress at a lunch meting on Wednesday.
In fact, the two sides seemed to grow further apart.

Conservatives represented by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) squared off against moderates led by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) over lunch. according to lawmakers who attended.

They battled over Cruz's "Consumer Freedom" proposal, which would allow companies to sell health insurance plans that don't meet the requirements of the Affordable care Act.

Collins and other moderates expressed opposition to the plan, fearing that it would lead to sicker Americans becoming segregated in the insurance markets.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis), meanwhile, continued to chastise leadership for not running a more open process in drafting the legislation and ignoring many ideas from rank-and-file colleagues-
criticisms he has voiced over the past few weeks.

One senator described the talks as "running in circles."

1. Collins said yesterday that she expects Friday to be THE day for make or brake of the bill

and not after the July 4th weekend. I don't know why she thinks that since she didn't go into it further.

3. I did see that and I can personally assure you that I will be one of them, oh goodie!

I went to a Die-In/candlelight vigil last night but I didn't share my story.

I find it curious that whenever I go to a protest rally (last night was my 7th and on July 2nd I am going to an Impeach Trump protest) and they sing an "American" patriotic song I get all teary. How can anyone do this to American citizens? The GOP is the most un-American group in the country these days.

4. Once Republicans get past bumpersticker slogans, they start to realize they have

very little in common with each other, after all. That's part of what is at work here. If they prolong this thing past a week or two, they risk splitting the party permanently. What a pity. They'll table the bill rather than risk that.

The only reason Asshole wanted a different plan is because he's got a grudge against Obama. I think that's started to dawn on a whole lot of people.
