All my life I have focused on living the healthiest life I could. Stay out of hospitals unless needed for delivering babies, having my Gallbladder out, a total Hysterectomy, removal of a Cataract, and Orthoscopic Knee Surgery. See my Regular Doctor twice a year, etc. I am on 3 medications and that is all for the Eye Disease I have been battling for over 33 years, which has claimed one of them. I am now on Medicare as of May 1st of this year, with TriCare as a Supplemental insurance Plan.
Now more than ever, the United States needs to catch up with much of the world in having a Single Payer Health/Medicare Plan for ALL system where everyone is covered, everyone pays a little more in taxes, where everyone has skin in the game. The fear of Bankruptcy vanishes, people can focus on living a healthier lifestyle with better diets, exercise, needing less medications, etc.
Who are the LOSERS in this? The money grubbing Health Insurance Industry who are only out to rake in as many BILLIONS in profits, make their CEOs richer, deny claims and coverage, cause families to go into bankruptcy because they decide what and how much they will cover. Add in the Drug companies who take in BILLIONS in Tax payer subsidies to develop new drugs, only to charge the American people as MUCH money for them as they can, while the rest of the world pay cost for them. The US is subsidizing the rest of the world.
For that to happen, people, we must pressure our legislators in Washington, DC with our stories and experiences. It is up to us to make this happen. I am willing to pay more in Taxes to see that everyone on this country is covered.
What say you?

(10,497 posts)1. The other LOSERS, and I mean that in every sense of the word
are the politicians who have been taking in huge donations from the insurance and health care industries!
I can live with that!

For it is not the Government getting in the way of Doctors and their patients. It has always been the health Insurance companies in what they will and will not cover, let alone pay on.

Teddy Kennedy was fighting for this in the 70's. Now all of the other developed countries have passed us by in this regard.

(9,527 posts)5. Very few countries have actual single payer
The Netherlands has a broadly similar approach as the ACA and has one of the best rated health care in the world.
There are multiple ways to get to better. Single payer will be a really hard sell in this country.
