A wonderfully scathing editorial from a former West Virginia Supreme Court justice (and all-around smartass!):
"American politics have always been rough. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson duked it out at the beginning of the 19th century with scathing accusations and libelous characterizations. Richard Nixon was thoroughly despised by the center-left, and Bill Clinton was equally despised by the center-right.
"But earlier times were strikingly different from today: Presidents were reviled and despised, but they were never laughingstocks.
"President Donald Trump is different: His election was Middle America giving the finger to the political establishment. But like any revolution, the hard part began when real governing began.
"Unlike all previous presidents, Trump has turned himself into an object of fun. And I dont say this from any partisan animus: my first lawyer job was as a clerk for Nixon in his New York law firm."

He's dreaming if he thinks that the U.S. will be run by a competent mandarinate.

Trumpy in the White House. He's right about Middle America, but he should have been right about Russia as well.

I guess he hasn't noticed that Cheetolini and his henchmen are decimating the agencies where those "mandarins" toil.

Most people don't concern themselves much with issues of governance. They barely bother to vote, really, and once they do, they return to other interests.
