Liars are no better than a thief. A thief robs you of your possessions - a liar robs you of your trust.
That is what we have in our White House. There is no honesty. There is no truth. There is no transparency. Personally, I cannot accept that as a "legitimate" government.
It doesn't matter how much people attempt to "normalize" this White House. I can never accept them as representative of my interests. I could never tolerate a "liar".

(22,165 posts)not our military. No one. What do we do? I can't wait until 2018 elections. That's too far away.

(26,659 posts)Telling us "the president" did this or that. No, "the president" lied and then lied again and then lied some more. That should be the daily news.

(18,964 posts)when I realize that the people who put this liar in office don't care that he lies. They know he lies and they accept it...
Why?
Because the mask of civility has been torn off of their bigotry...of their hatred of anyone different from them and they understand that the liar-in-chief in the White House is "one of them"...they will tolerate..no..ACCEPT AND AMPLIFY any lie, policy, obfuscation or just plain old BULLSHIT...that comes out of his mouth because "he's one of us and he's going to put those (insert racial slur here) in their place."
That's what's so depressing...a little less than half of America is populated by these people..

(5,726 posts)that Trump is the only person they can cling onto with their blinding rage against of having a black man in the Whitehouse for eight (gasp) years.
These people are truly sick.

(9,426 posts)but he represents the gop and that is good for us. His taint will overshadow the repub. party for YEARS to come. This is a mistake they will all regret. He is the most ignorant presidnt EVER placed into the WH. Putin must be laughing his arse off, seeing the disaster this orange oaf is committing on the US. Vlad calls him "a useful idiot" while tRump blunders along, posting his asinne twitter tweets destroying this country and turning citizens against each other. He even loooks the part, bright orange, with white racoon eyes, long tie that does not cover his big belly. He is a joke, and he is the gop albatross.

(14,858 posts)... he's too mentally lazy to read anything substantial, and he basically stole their talking points when he campaigned as well.
Illegal immigration was a regular FOX News topic to agitate viewers before he even ran for President, for example.

(28 posts)It's not the difference of opinion. It's the fact that the one thing I cannot STAND is a liar.
I can tolerate an executive with a different opinion (gritting my teeth, quite often, but I can tolerate him). What I cannot tolerate is an administration that is completely lacking in integrity and tells no truth at all.

(6,916 posts)Yes, the GOP and this president are the party of falsehood. This president, and the modern GOP, have fundamental principles that are founded on lies. Also, I am not distracted when right wingers try to excuse their party by whataboutism -- saying that "all politicians lie". That is false. All humans at times are deceptive, that is true. Obama wanted a healthcare bill that covered more poor people. He was honest about that. The GOP wants tax giveaways for the rich, and they cloak that in a "healthcare bill". When your fundamental principles are lies, you are not a trustworthy person nor someone who helps the country.
Your point about liars robbing you of trust is good, but I'd say it's even worse than that. It's not just about believing any particular statement. The president is intentionally telling lies to confuse us, to make democracy difficult, to make it hard to know what to believe so people have to rely on him.
This is what Putin and Chavez did too. Several writers have discussed this use of lies:

IS TRUMPS CHAOS TORNADO A MOVE FROM THE KREMLINS PLAYBOOK?
Its terrifying to think that the Trump administration is simply winging it, in a swirl of lies, contradictions, and Twitter rants. A scarier possibility is that there is, in fact, a plan, taken straight from Putin 101.
