Johnny Depp apologizes for joking about assassinating Donald Trump: 'I was only trying to amuse'

By Stephanie Merry and Lindsey Bever June 23 at 2:17 PM

Johnny Depp apologized Friday for making flip remarks about assassinating the president. In a statement to People, the actor said, “I apologize for the bad joke I attempted last night in poor taste about President Trump. It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone.”

Depp was the Glastonbury Festival’s inaugural guest at the new Cineramageddon drive-in theater, and he certainly gave the place a memorable launch. While introducing a screening of his 2004 movie “The Libertine” on Thursday night, the actor made inflammatory statements about President Trump.

“I think he needs help and there are a lot of wonderful dark, dark places he could go,” Depp said, according to the Guardian.

He then asked the crowd: “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”

4. I saw "The Libertine" a while back

It was highly intense, serious adults only subject matter, made me both laugh and tear up at points.

The main character, John Wilmot, is one of the major poets in history, in a class with Keats or Byron, and one of the least known, as his work is censored to this day.

If you get a chance to see it, try keeping a straight face when you hear the Earl's manservant's actual name.

Highly recommended, and Depp's performance will make your jaw drop.

NOT Jack Sparrow.

and basically incites/condones violence at his rallies. And what about that ass who got elected two weeks ago after assaulting a reporter. NRA and Repubs are liars and hypocrites to the Nth degree. Bill Maher (who had a successful show called Politically INcorrect by the way) gets called out and has to apologize as does Kathy Griffin. Republicans continue to get away with murder both figuratively and literally (how many people are killed in wars of words compared to wars with guns?). I am not making excuses but come on, really?!

How many of us are in dark places, but don't voice our dark opinions? I don't condone violence or violent rhetoric, and I wouldn't voice it, but I have dark thoughts.

It's not amusing. There is nothing funny about talking about killing people. And you know the Secret Service has been to see him. It's just plain stupid.

The Kathy Griffin controversy has barely subsided,
and he wants to throw gasoline on the righties-
are-so-victimized bonfire. Dumb.

He looks like 10 miles of hard road, and he's not that old.

And that fake English accent is so stupid. What's with him and Madonna trying to sound English?
