the schism in our country has always been there - three film examples and a WTF

We watched the excellent Beatles documentary Eight Days a Week the other night. They showed the scene when Lennon's comments about the popularity of the Beatles vs Jesus led to the baffling bans and album burnings in the US.

But - think back to It's A Wonderful Life - and Mr. Potter and Pottersville scenario.

Think about the film Pleasantville and the group that rioted and broke windows because of the appearance of "color" (such a clever film)

Now imagine this - there is a large group of people out there - certainly the trumpster voters, certainly many repubs, certainly many repub politicians - that would be watching these and cheering on and identifying with the album burners, the concept of Pottersville, and violent anti-color group in Pleasantville.

Of course this will be obvious to us here.

I just list these examples to demonstrate the world of difference - the depth of the schism - between us and them. Is it getting worse? Possibly - it is bolder, more in your face, aided by social media, abetted by right wing hate radio and TV.

But it is some scary shit - and deplorable is a pretty good word to describe it.

It is not "both sides do it" - it is not "there are two ways of looking at things that have equal validity".

It is about right and wrong. And they are wrong. We can't let this drag our country down any further.

The WTF - can you imagine sitting with your family and cheering on Mr Potter? Well, there are a whole lotta people around that would be doing just that. WTF indeed.

...was just how many people there are out there with attitudes that can only be described as evil.

Yeah, I suppose there may have been some who were desperate for any kind of change or those who were gullible enough to believe that all we needed was a savvy businessman to make everything wonderful, but most of the people I know who voted for Trump knew very well he was a turd and voted for him anyway.
