Howard Dean says: Nancy Pelosi was the best Speaker since Tip O'Neill

Last edited Thu Jun 22, 2017, 04:16 PM - Edit history (1)

Dean was on MSNBC maybe an hour ago, saying that. Sorry not to have total accuracy, but things have been hopping in my life this morning (California time).

The reason for this post is the inexplicable desire of some DUers to get rid of one of the most effective Dem politicians in the nation -- starting yesterday in a swarm.

I'll add to that: Howard Dean, aka The Good Dr. Dean, for a long time the most beloved and respected losing presidential candidate ever deified on Democratic Underground. (I'm sure someone will tell me if he's fallen from his pedestal here). No one, and I mean NO ONE on the Dem side ever told him to stfu after he lost, nor to maintain a dignified silence, nor to be ashamed of whatever speaking fees he got.

And brings all voting powers together for one strong vote. Now, how many can claim that? To be a uniter, not a divider!

My wife met him when he was in phx.

He could have been a great president, a true progressive without all the political baggage.

Made him look like a clown and then denied all responsibility for his drop in the polls? Har har de har.

Or were you in the room when it happened, as a friend of mine was? She said the decibel level in that room was such that you couldn't hear yourself think and that he was trying to make himself heard by his supporters. Turns out the MSM had a directional mic aimed at him that wiped out nearly all the ambient noise and only picked up Dean's exhortations to his supporters

Yeeargh 600+ times. Oh how merrily I laugh when I recall that. Especially the warm memories of getting BushCheney re-elected.

Welcome to DU, DrWatson. Enjoy your time here.

There are ways and there are ways. Karma comes to those who least expect it and whomps them on the head. So Ryan with that new People's House Project he and Krystal Ball have drummed up is bound to fail 'cause he isn't smart enough. And, hiding in a secret room with 12 other members to plot a takeover and disparage Pelosi will get him nothing but a bad reputation as untrustworthy.

You think Nancy doesn't know how to handle that sour grapes whiner?

...the Democrats no longer being in the majority in the House. Hence Dean's use of the past tense in regards to that title.

What she is, in the present, is one of the most skilled and powerful Democratic politicians/leaders in the House. Dean was acknowledging that.

We'd be fools to call for the ouster of Nancy P.

without pretending that he was so universally loved that it was simply unjust that he lost. As a supporter, I never claimed he was cheated out of a win.

He was our best party leader. We wouldn't be in this mess, IMHO, if he had been head of the DNC in the General. 50 state solution rather than worrying about pissing off Repubs.

Thank you Pelosi for sticking it out. Many cut and ran when things got tough.
