So sick and tired of so-called corporate "charity" giving

Especially when it's conditioned upon them making more money. For example, we've all seen examples of retail conglomerates offering to donate x-amount of money if you buy such-and-such product, or if some other condition is met. To me, these companies are basically saying "We have all these millions set aside for charity...but we're not going to give any of it away unless YOU give us more money." If these companies truly cared about the charities, they wouldn't be holding them hostage in such a manner.

I also don't like large corporations bragging about how much money they've donated to charity. To me, it's just another form of corporate propaganda - we're supposed to feel all happy and fuzzy about the company because they're such nice people, maybe we should support them by buying their products. Oh, and it also happens to be a large tax write-off. How convenient.

If these companies were so damned concerned about these charities, they'd give without any conditions, without holding a press conference, or leaking it to the press. They'd do it out of the goodness of their own hearts, without the benefit of tax write-offs.

Of course, these companies are making so much damned $$$, they could easily afford to pay their fair share of taxes. God forbid!

A company announcing they donated millions to a charity, not so much.

They have to explain where the money went, especially if it is a publicly traded company. It may be just for PR reasons, but at least it does some good.

My thoughts on this product promotion is simply to ignore them. I believe that if the company decides it has "X" amount of cash to donate to Charity "Y" then by all means go ahead and do so. You don't need my participation in the process. Donate or not, it is not my place to join in their badly designed marketing programs.
