Biden: “It’s not your father’s Republican Party”

The vice president gave an impassioned, 36-minute stumper this afternoon to about 150 people crowded into the basement of the Kansas City, North, home of Charles and Patty Garney.

Biden’s voice rose as he described the Republican Party, which is a different GOP than the one he knew as a young Delaware senator in the 1970s.

“It’s not your father’s Republican Party,” he said. “It’s a different Republican Party than the one I grew up in.”

Republicans today oppose even legislation they believe in, Biden said.

“This is the first group of Republican congressmen who will not vote for things I know they are for,” Biden said. They even oppose bills “they know would help the economy along.

“They are voting against things they absolutely, specifically voted for in the past.”

Biden only mentioned Mitt Romney a couple of times. He said Romney, like other Republicans, are decent people who simply don’t understand what it’s like to be unemployed or hold a job that doesn’t match one’s qualifications.

It's not my fathers Democratic party either. They vote for things they never would have voted for in the past.

You would never hear me say otherwise.

Politics has moved in the direction the 1% demand though in both parties.

while enjoying wealth and privilege greater than billions of other people they arrogantly assure themselves that it is because they are chosen by God, possess superior breeding, are smarter than everyone else, and if you aren't able to bootstrap yourself up to their level it is because you are an inferior being.

...I suspect that it's the same party, but with the new-found arrogance of power, power insured by unlimited campaign funds, gerrymandering, a tame media, and hacked voting machines.

It was obvious back in December, 2000, when our president was installed via a judicial coup de etat.

A time when the republicans were almost never in control of congress.

They are the opposition party. They have been since WWII. Then came the Reagan administration. The economy was stimulated because both parties got the spending that they wanted (which ran up the deficit). Then came Clinton with his fiscally conservative taxes and Fox News.

The republicans are still the opposition party, but they control one house of congress. If the democrats can maintain control of the senate and get control of the house; they can go back to being the opposition party. Where they just whine and piss and bellyache, but they don't really hurt anything.
