President Trump Says He Has Higher Approval Ratings Than Obama. Thats Not True

https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/time/4822956/donald-trump-tweets-rasmussen-poll-barack-obama/%3fsource=dam
President Donald Trump unleashed a series of tweets Sunday morning, touting a poll that showed him with a 50% approval rating, which he said was higher than his predecessor. By that wasn't true.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking poll did show President Trump with a 50% approval rating on Friday, June 16 — the first time Trump had reached this high of an approval rating since April, the pollsters noted.

But on June 16, 2009, then-President Obama had a 56% approval rating under the same poll. And on June 18, 2009, Obama had a 55% approval rating.

Other polls show Trump with much lower approval ratings than all of his predecessors, not just Barack Obama.

Here is just one example of how Mr. Trump’s actions do not correspond with his words in such an important issue as the protection of national interests in the Arctic.

So, your budget will probably be cut, but you’ll get new icebreakers anyway. Am I the only one to whom it seems, at least, strange?

At the same time Russia builds up its military presence in the Arctic in order to protect national interests in the region. Over the last few years the new Arctic command, four new brigades, 14 new operational airfields, and 16 deepwater ports were activated. Russia also has the world’s biggest icebreakers fleet of 40 vessels with 11 more under construction.

As for the US Arctic ambitions – they’re simply woefully underfunded. Here are two quotes that show how big the capabilities gap between the US and Russia is.

“The highways of the Arctic are icebreakers. Russia has superhighways, and we have dirt roads with potholes.” Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska (January, 2017)

“They’ve [Russia] got all their chess pieces on the board right now, and right now we’ve got a pawn and maybe a rook. If you look at this Arctic game of chess, they’ve got us at checkmate right at the very beginning.” Adm. Paul Zukunft, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard (May, 2017)
