A Conversation on the Bus
My son just returned home from five months in Italy. He decided to see some of the U.S. by taking the train from coast to coast. Thanks to our splendid train system, we met his bus eight hours after he was to have arrived on the train. As he was getting his bags from the baggage compartment, a lady approached him and told him what a wonderful job he had done. That certainly piqued my interest. He explained after we got in the car.
He had been sitting near two very loud ladies who were apparently extremely proud of the great education they had gotten from Fox News. They had all the talking points and no clue to back them up. My son has people skills that I never had and he very respectfully engaged them in conversation. Without being confrontational, he persuaded them that they really needed another source of information. He got them to question things they had accepted as truth just because they came from the only information source they listened to. He explained that Fox News was not spewing the conservative line for their edification but for the financial benefit of Rupert Murdoch. My sons take was that it would be great if bus conversations like this could happen in Congress.
