Why is Trump so adamant, almost obsessed, in declaring himself NOT under investigation?

One of his legal advisers, Jay Sekulow, was on Chris Wallace's show this morning, and insisted that the President was not under "investigation". Wallace pushed back. We don't know if he is under investigation, he said.

When Trump fired Comey, he kept reminding us that "three times he was told he was not under investigation". Why was that important to him?

He believes that if he is not under criminal investigation, he is free to do whatever he wants and fire whomever he wants, including the FBI Director and the Deputy Attorney General, and even the Special Counsel.

But, if he is under investigation, it is a totally different situation. One cannot simply fire the person that is investigating them without the appearance of obstruction of justice or something very wrong. It has the appearance of guilt.

That may be why he is pressing the issue so hard?

Lies will do just fine. Lies have helped him so far but there is a brick wall coming.

No trouble. As long the base believes him, the Republicans in Congress will be afraid of him.

Trump is fixated on his popularity in the polls, on how many people came to his inauguration, on comparing his numbers to Obama's, on debunking the pee story, and now, on whether or not he's under investigation.

I'm not sure it's worth trying to figure out why certain things bother him and others don't.

"But he's not"
"I know that. I just want to hear the s.o.b. deny it"

He doesn't know how to just let it go.

That's why he wanted Comey to publicly exonerate him so badly. That way when the investigation touches him he could be more effective playing the victim before his base.

Trump not being under personal investigation is a stupid gop talking point that's not even relevant. Trumps campaign as a collective was and is under investigation and Trump is part of the Trump campaign. If people who worked for the Trump campaign colluded with Russians than Trump is indeed illegitimate even if he had no knowledge of it and should be impeach.
