They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. Nice

(111,110 posts)How about that guy that met with the Russian Ambassador and Foreign Minister in the White House, along with the TV camera from Tass, the Russian media company? And no American news media was permitted - in our own White House!
And what about that guy that told the Russians the "pressure" was now off, since he had just fired the FBI Director the day before? No proof of obstruction there, huh?

(70,556 posts)WASHINGTON President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved great pressure on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting.
I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job, Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official. I faced great pressure because of Russia. Thats taken off.
Mr. Trump added, Im not under investigation.
The conversation, during a May 10 meeting the day after he fired Mr. Comey reinforces the notion that the president dismissed him primarily because of the bureaus investigation into possible collusion between Mr. Trumps campaign and Russian operatives. Mr. Trump said as much in one televised interview, but the White House has offered changing justifications for the firing.
The comments represented an extraordinary moment in the investigation, which centers in part on the administrations contacts with Russian officials: A day after firing the man leading that inquiry, Mr. Trump disparaged him to Russian officials.

(26,060 posts)is the degenerate brought this all on himself. If he hadn't fired Comey, Comey's memo would have remained private, no special counsel would have been named and there would be no obstruction investigation. He fired Comey and Comey has screwed him over thoroughly.
BumRushDaShow
(129,339 posts)He bragged to Russian officials (Foreign Minister & Ambassador) with the following -
I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job. I faced great pressure because of Russia. Thats taken off.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/19/us/politics/trump-russia-comey.html
And that was codified in meeting notes that were distributed!!!!!

(26,060 posts)about that very important detail. The degenerate has only himself to blame.
BumRushDaShow
(129,339 posts)due to his propensity to be a braggart.

(4,973 posts)Comey was already trying to protect himself from trump b4 he was fired. Also, the unrest in the intelligence community would have continued either way.
BumRushDaShow
(129,339 posts)He could have dipped and dodged around the stuff happening with Flynn. Manafort, and Page, et al, and like a good little mafioso, he could have used them as a firewall to establish his separation from their dealings. But once he tried to interfere on behalf of Flynn, things escalated, he had a temper tantrum, and that has lead us to what is happening today.
The "obstruction of justice" thing is actually "new" and only casually associated with the collusion stuff. And theoretically, the firing of Comey might have been pooh-poohed somewhat by investigators, but his continued actions (including his codified salacious remarks to Russian officials as to "why" he fired Comey), plus his continued tweeting, have helped to establish his intent.
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)the obstruction charge harder to make. As it is, he seems to fire anyone who is investigating him - the very definition of obstruction.
Juliusseizure
(562 posts)Comey seemed to drag the investigation out, didn't admit one existed until well after inauguration (unlike reopening Clinton's), tried to "manage" Trump rather than tell him to butt out. He only consolidated the NY FBI and Wa. investigating branches to Wa. 8 months into it.
He wasn't even investigating obstruction, and he's the key witness. He only brought it up AFTER he was fired, making him part of the cover up. I seriously doubt he would have disclosed that if he stayed FBI head.
He was talking about the investigation lasting years. Trump could have survived for years if he was more strategic and politically sophisticated.
His firing is what caused Rosenstein to appoint a special prosecutor.
True, Mueller's role is different, but I don't think that has much bearing on the dramatic increase in Meuller's pace. How refreshing to see someone in government doing the fuck they're supposed to be doing.
He's only been in two weeks and already subpoenaening NSA heads for obstruction charges against the President, i.e., no hesitation or fear, and no intent to "manage" Trump or ease up because he's "new".

(129,339 posts)are subject to the PRA (Presidential Records Act), are to be preserved, and will most likely be included as part of any investigation that involves himself and his associates.
This is why when Obama was elected and begged for use of his blackberry, all kinds of hoops were jumped to give him a specially-configured and secure one that he used very judiciously separate from the @POTUS account (that Drumpf's staff stick random info on).
