Analysis finds e-voting machines vulnerable

WASHINGTON — Most of the electronic voting machines widely adopted since the disputed 2000 presidential election "pose a real danger to the integrity of national, state and local elections," a report out Tuesday concludes.

There are more than 120 security threats to the three most commonly purchased electronic voting systems, the study by the Brennan Center for Justice says. For what it calls the most comprehensive review of its kind, the New York City-based non-partisan think tank convened a task force of election officials, computer scientists and security experts to study e-voting vulnerabilities.

The study, which took more than a year to complete, examined optical scanners and touch-screen machines with and without paper trails. Together, the three systems account for 80% of the voting machines that will be used in this November's election.

we now know that they were connecting to many points in the election system months before the election took place. it doesn't take a genius to see why.

They all seemed tied to Russia, and there were congressional races affected also. What better way than to work with Russia to do the dirty work of stealing an election, giving them the resources to inflect the most damage.

Still no voting machines with internet access, which makes widespread hacking nearly impossible. The only avenue would be altering software on the machines via code changes either trojaned in or physically installed. I think that very unlikely but would like the code on the machines reviewed to confirm.

The Russians meddled, but I do not believe they directly hacked the vote totals.

10. With all due respect...

the scenario you outline is easier than you think. i'm not sure i fyou are aware that every machine has a memory card that is programmed before each election, by the software vendor. if someone could access the software vendor (which today's news indicates did happen) they could easily install such a trojan that would infect all the machines.

internet access is not required at all to manipulate the vote counting. this has been demonstrated many times.

I suggest you read the Brennan Report, it's written by the world's most prominent computer security experts.
