DeMint Will Try to Organize a Convention of States

https://politicalwire.com/2017/06/12/demint-will-try-organize-convention-states/

SNIP.............

Former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC),” ousted last month as head of the Heritage Foundation think tank, is joining a fast-growing, conservative movement that is pushing states to seek a constitutional convention to rein in federal spending and power,” USA Today reports.

“DeMint, a prominent figure among the Tea Party activists who helped Republicans seize control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, will serve as a senior adviser to the Convention of the States Project, providing a jolt to its efforts to marshal grassroots support for a state-led movement to amend the U.S. Constitution.”

Jonathan Swan: “A large and growing number of conservatives — the Convention of States project boasts more than 2.2 million supporters throughout the country — are concluding that the election of Donald Trump will do little to change the permanent bureaucracy in Washington.”

After all, he has neutered the departments of (among others) Education, HUD, Energy as well as the EPA--all to the country's severe detriment. This has to be music to Putin's, er, I mean, DeMint's ears. What's his problem? Not enough people starving yet in California, or what?

"I speak 35 languages, 17 of which are Yiddish."

I speak 9 languages, but none of them are Yiddish. I have to get around to that one of these days. We're only a 4 hour flight from Israel, and we've never been there. For that matter, we're only a 2 hour flight from Rome, and we've never been there, either.

But damn, man I still got a day job that puts me in a different country every day as it is. I'm lucky I can drag my wife out to Prague, Budapest, Stockholm, Dubrovnik or Barcelona for a weekend. That's the trouble when these places are so near. You always think there's time until there isn't any more. It took us 20 years before we even visited the Neander Valley and its museum, which is only one of the most famous archaeological sites in the frigging WORLD. We waited until we had a visitor from Moscow who wanted to see it, and it is a 20 minute DRIVE from our door!!!! (Neander Valley in German is "Neandertal" in case the English didn't ring a bell).

EVERYONE says see Rome and See Venice. We gotta do it, you're right. Maybe we'll steal a long weekend this fall?

Sinful, Heathen folks who live in Los Angeles really don't have very much in common with Heritage Foundation-minded residents of South Carolina, now, do they.

You want to establish a Theocracy, we don't. We like sex, legal weed and nudity on cable tv, you are still traumatized by naked breasts and the female orgasm.

If you're going to junk the Constitution, don't be half-assed about it.

The western counties of Washington and Oregon will likely coalesce into an embryonic form of the long hoped-for Republic of Cascadia. Northern California may join us if they choose.

A Union of Pacific States as demarcated on your map would be perfectly acceptable to me.

That's why I tend to roll my eyes at the bigoted histrionics of the anti-immigration right-wing. Many of my patients are undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Central America. As far as I'm concerned, they didn't cross the border; the border crossed them.

Try to drive and off you go, slip sliding all over the goddam place and winding up in a ditch behind a snowbank and they don't find you until a month after spring thaw.

They were only one state short last year of having the required number of States to overturn the Constitution and democracy itself. This is what our owners have been working toward since the 70's if not earlier. The Kochs and their coterie have spent all that money on this future.
