(5,730 posts)read 25pc as much news because I knew we had adults in charge, and they knew much more than I did (not true now). I didn't anxiously read the morning news, knowing something else awful or stupid, had probably happened.
I took our government seriously; now, I just think most are a bunch of fakers and I'm contemptuous, at best.
Good portrait.

(70,129 posts)and much as i love the implicit middle finger of the tan suit, i also love that he had 5 identical blue suits and one tux.
would have been more representative in his usually tidy, tailored blue. all that beige is a little monotonous for me.

(66,388 posts)I love the tan suit. That's an artistic middle-finger to the reich-wingers who became hysterically enraged when he wore one. Despite the fact that every President immediately preceding him has been photographed wearing a brown or tan suit.
I don't know why the color of his suit mattered so much to the below-average half of America. But since his skin color did too, we'll just chalk it up to sub-optimal intelligence on their part.

(12,448 posts)I don't understand it. They did the same shit to Al Gore, and of course some so-called progressives chimed in.

(58,670 posts)I almost hope they don't hang it in the White House until Trump is gone, because I wouldn't put anything past him, including defacing artworks.
OTOH, I hope they hang it prominently to remind Trump of what a real president looks like.

(7,188 posts)too big, the tie is too long. Really not good.

(8,854 posts)It looks more like a study for a portrait rather than the final work.
mahina
(17,669 posts)There's none of his spirit in it, the tie is ridiculous, the suit is baggy, the colors are really muddy, his physique and physicality is missing completely, the face has a nasty expression I've never seen on him that does not reflect his bright heart, and it looks like a talented sixth grader painted it.
I do not like it at all and am sorry this is it, if it is.
He is much more handsome and polished than this painting portrays.
Disappointed.

(15,805 posts)Yeah, that suit is wrinkled and a couple of sizes too big and looks like it came off the sale rack at Ernie's Big & Tall, but the 'artist' painted a goddamned monkey face on the Obama's sleeve!
Editing to add: this info doesn't appear on any other news service. I'm suspicious now that this is a hoax.

(60,010 posts)that top black streak of the "face" has no reason to be there, it is not shadow, too dark to be a wrinkle.

(36,865 posts)The response, iirc, was something along the lines of fellow DUers would set it straight in the body of the thread. Pfft, as if that matters... 80 people recommended a thread that is totally fake.
Same thing happened with the recent fake Trump Time cover that was posted and recommended by quite a few.

(70,129 posts)we at least need a fake news smilie.
i have suggested that a unique was to do post likes would be to open the smilie panel, then add those to the post bottom line like hearts. they said it was a good idea, but i dont think it is high on the list.
i do love that eventually folks debunk stuff, but yeah, that time cover had me banging my head.

(46,166 posts)I always liked him in a tan suit. Also, looking to his left - a nice point to make in case it was for that reason. The casual hands in his pockets is very sharp and is so much his public personality. This is a nice contemporary portrait. Oh, and the flag pin! Not too much ad not too little, just right. Just right all around.

(10,718 posts)the background in particular. Remember those cartoons where someone gets hit by a frying pan and stands vibrating, surrounded by lines? That's what it reminds me of.
The likeness is decent but the suit is too casual and loose - not how the man presented himself. And why is the tie trump-long?

so reading other posts this is not the "official" painting. Leave to DU to find out it's not the official.

(50,278 posts)President Obama is a handsome man and always smartly dressed. Although the likeness if there, the painting seems sloppy and amateurish.

(420 posts)Hiding an ape face in a fairly normal looking portrait (altho agree it doesn't do him justice).
Am I misremembering or did a right wing artist put some reference to scandal (blue dress? etc?) in some official portrait of Bill Clinton? These people are such scum. Yet we are supposed to "respect" the office of President and blindly support tRump?!!!!
