General Discussion

"The reason this is such a big deal has we have this big, messy, wonderful country where we fight with each other all the time, but nobody tells us what to think, what to fight about, what to vote for, except other Americans, and thats wonderful and often painful.
But were talking about a foreign government that, using technical intrusion, lots of other methods, tried to shape the way we think, we vote, we act. That is a big deal. And people need to recognize it.
Its not about Republicans or Democrats. Theyre coming after America, which I hope we all love equally. They want to undermine our credibility in the face of the world. They think that this great experiment of ours is a threat to them, and so theyre going to try to run it down and dirty it up as much as possible.
Thats what this is about. And they will be back, because we remain as difficult as we can be with each other, we remain that shining city on the hill, and they dont like it."

Dump focuses about him...not comprehending...this is bigger!

(13,527 posts)this powerful, magnificent statement from a TelePrompTer, either. The man is a true orator, and

(13,527 posts)memorize the Gettysburg Address and the "I Have a Dream" speech? - we might have to wait a bit as we focus on surviving this maelstrom, but peeps will be committing this to memory and reenacting it in elementary school classrooms and acting classes all over America someday...
Hell, I might memorize it myself, eh?! I've got a John Phillip Sousa CD, too...I could memorize and sob my brains out simultaneously (hey, who couldn't use a good cry long amount now?!)-

(4,341 posts)is the fact that there is a high probability of collusion with one of the parties (Republican party) and the Russians which goes even deeper than a foreign country, which has always tried anyway, to undermine USA's institutions, the bigger threat is treason in a proportion never seen before, all for money and power.
So to blame the Russians alone is lame, beautifully said, but lame nonetheless, the real threat is the internal terrorism/treason because lets face it, USA has also tried to change things in Russia and if the USA had its way it would, so don't paint it like the big issue is the foreign country, the huge issue here is treason.

(6,931 posts)the director of the FBI isn't going to say that.
Perseus
(4,341 posts)the word treason in a subtle way?
And its not "obviously" because no one seems to be talking about it, so maybe Comey cannot say it, but the rest of the World can, and I don't hear anyone saying it.
I believe that if the discussion was stronger in that respect that even the trumpers will start paying attention.

(6,139 posts)that was the most important part of the testimony. Trump will continue praise putin and supress russia investigations. By the way, Steel's dossier was not dismissed by comey. We all know that dossier was 100% true. But I beleive putin has much more compromising material on him and other rethugs.

(7,358 posts)''that shining city on the hill" crap is biblical in case any of you didn't get it. No doubt used time and again by the religious right.
"A City upon a Hill" is a phrase from the parable of Salt and Light in Jesus's Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 5:14, he tells his listeners, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden." It has become popular with American politicians.

then the US needs to stop interfering in other nations'
elections, which it has done routinely - and almost always on the
side of the Right, often the FAR right.
It's downright jingoistic to think that YOUR electoral process is
sacrosanct, but that all the others are fair game.
Having studied and traveled in 50 countries, I have seen a lot of
