Michael Moore Pays Medical Bills of Conservative Critic’s Wife

Jim Kenefick has had an obsession with Michael Moore for years, even setting up Moorewatch.com, which boasts it's “Watching Michael Moore’s every move”. On his blog he recently wrote about the difficulty he was having paying his wife’s medical bills.

Kenefick then received an email from an anonymous donor asking to pay his premiums of $12,000. He accepted. Now the NY Daily News has revealed from a third source that the generous donation came from Michael Moore himself who couldn't be reached.

A friend of Moore's seemingly confirmed by saying, “We sure are happy Jim’s wife received the care she needed.” Kenefick admits the money turned his life around, but is still outraged at the filmmaker whom he believes is using him to promote "Sicko".

That's not so hard to understand, is it?

I would give my blood to anyone who needed it, without qualification of any kind. That's not so hard to understand either.

I'll stick by my opinion that anyone who would willingly cause harm to another is less than human. I can understand how that puts you on the defensive, but it is what it is.

I am the only person I know who feels this way, and it's based solely on my life.

I was born dead, severe heart condition, open heart surgery as a tot, etc., so I had lots of blood and lifesaving measures. Unfortunately, I was saved, to live a life of severe abuse by my parents and brother. Yeah, I outgrew a lot of that, outgrew the hatred, outgrew most of the PTSD, but I've never changed my mind about not giving body parts or pieces to save another.

Their lives, even in my case my life, might have been worth saving, but I question whether the world deserves every saved life.

It's weird though, if I see someone harming, beating, degrading another, I have to butt in and end it, been beaten a few times for doing such and continue to do it anyway. But ask me to donate blood or sign up for organ donation, not happening.

I get this will annoy many, but don't get too pissy with me, I'm doin' the best I can, and even if I was willing, I'm too slender, I'm not allowed to give blood, I did try once just to try to force myself out of this mindset, and they sent me home.

I would be kind of bummed if it saved certain people's lives--Dick Cheney's or Rush Limbaugh's--but there are only a few people I would afterwards regret saving (although I'd do it for anybody who wasn't currently in a position of power; I'd have had to think twice about saving Cheney's life in the leadup to the Iraq war, for example, because of the lives that would have been saved had he not been around). For most right wingers, I would do so gladly. I would be genuinely curious about what their answers would be for the likes of us. I hope it would be the same.

Being a big guy with a high platelet count, they can usually get three units out of me per donation. I think I've donated 82 times plus a couple gallons of whole blood along the way. There had to have been a few real assholes receiving my blood.

I don't know if he ever received any of my blood, but we had a real asshole hospitalized getting transfusions a couple years ago. He was the plant manager at a local mill for years. My job is registering donors at blood drives and sometimes our local fixed site. We had some of this guys family and Elks Club cronies come in and donate on his behalf. You can donate and give a patient a credit that amounts to a small rebate off the cost of a unit they receive.

That bastard had actually stepped in years ago to screw me out of a job at a local business the mill did a lot of business with. He wanted that job for his son. His son was a little arrogant jr prick until he scrambled his brains in a motorcycle wreck. It turned out he really didn't want that job anyway. It was just something for him to do while dad found somewhere to hide him at the mill. He had to be babysat for months until the place he got hired at got rid of him.

It was kind of tough doing my job, knowing a prick like that was being helped by it. In the case of someone like that getting my blood I'd at least like to be able to send a little note along with it. Something like, "you don't deserve it but I'll help save your life ASSHOLE!"

Of course, yours is a hypothetical quesion;

When we donate blood (or any of our post-mordem organs)
we have absolutely no say in the identity of the recipient.

All those news stories about people stepping forward to donate
a kidney to a stranger, or bone marrow to a dying child are rare;
only in the case of relatives.. or close friends do you know the recipient.

But.. in most cases.. the donor has no say at all.
We step forward, give our blood to an organization,
and the blood is used ..... when in need.

And that is how it should be.
I don't want to know..

Do you think that everyone is so gracious?
I am sure there are some folks who would stipulate
who and where their blood (etc) should be used.

In the past years, the support of the public for
public services has sadly diminished.
And seeking the public good has gone the way of the Edsel.

People are brainwashed into individualism...
and that is a sore tragedy.

It is a relatively easy task that can lead to helping a lot of others. The answer should be yes for pretty much everyone, I would hope.

Now if the question was giving a lung or kidney or similar, you might start seeing some different answers.

I am not a donor. It's simply something I am not comfortable with. If a close relative of mine were in danger of dying, I would strongly consider it. But not for a stranger.

I'm O+ and CMV virus negative: http://www.springhillems.org/files/bloodbank/BabyBlood.pdf

My donations to go the elderly, babies, those with lowered immune systems, etc.

Dear Steven:

Thank you for giving blood with the American Red Cross on 5/18/2012. After first ensuring local needs were met, your double red cell donation was sent to Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE and Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE to help patients in need. Your donation is on its way to changing lives!

Every day, patients like Tim receive blood for a variety of conditions including life-threatening illnesses, blood disorders and traumas. Your blood donations are critical to helping save patients' lives.

On behalf of the hospitals and patients we serve, thank you for being a Red Cross blood donor.

Sincerely,

David C. Mair, M.D.

I'm O Neg (universal donor) and CMV negative. The people at the blood bank tell me they reserve my blood exclusively for preemies. If I forget to go down the will often call me on the phone asking me to come donate.

my husband had a bone marrow transplant, he and his donor, are both CMV negative. We do no need to worry about anything else

His wrist band, in case of an accident, lists CMV negative blood ... among other things.

One of the things that I hear over and over again from the left when discussing illegal immigration is that "no human is illegal." With that, not sure why folks would refrain from donating blood if the person did not meet some criteria. I'm proud to have recently surpassed 10 gallons in donations. Undoubtedly, the blood has gone to folks that both look like me, and look a bit different. I'd even say that more than 75% of it has gone to someone that does not meet all of my "attributes."

I used to give 3-4 times a year for at least 25 years. Twenty of those years were here in the land of ignorant rightwing baggers. So odds are, at least a few pints went into some of these idiots. Would I do it again? Sure, if they could get the blood out of me. The main reason I quit giving was because it got too difficult for most of the bloodmobile staff to find a good vein without digging for 10 minutes.

I'd also want them to know the blood wasn't 100% "white."

However, yes, if I could give blood I would give blood and I wouldn't care who got it. My type is relatively rare and always in demand. Unfortunately, they don't want my blood.

I know a couple of teabaggers who had enough horrible stuff happen to them that they finally woke up and aren't baggers any more. While there is life, there is hope, so helping someone extend it is not a waste of resources.
