There are viruses that go around, make people weak, give them "stomach flu", diarrhea, cough/cold, etc. As busy as she has been, she might have been susceptible to needing more rest to get over something.

I think if she was poisoned or attacked, the illness would have been sudden and severe, and she would not have been able to go on the air last Thursday (?).

Tue Jun 6, 2017, 09:24 AM
Jun 2017

Laffy, thank you so much for the NPR link to Rachel Maddow's 2012 interview with Terry Gross. For any of us huge believers in Rachel, your link is 44 minutes of must-listen-to radio.

I would simply just take issue with your use of the word "debilitating," which you use to describe Rachel's depression she shared toward the end of the interview. Rachel states that she expects to live with her chemically driven episodes of depression for the rest of her life, but clearly states that she has learned to function during depressive episodes and is able to work during episodes, with maybe slight adjustments to her schedule or job demands for that particular day or moment in time. It does not sound as though Rachel has ever been hospitalized, or has even had to miss work due to a bout of depression. And she never mentions medication, so there is definitely not a hint in her interview that she is debilitated by her depression or that she considers her depression debilitating, but instead Rachel indicates her depression, though obviously not pleasant, is very manageable.

Get well, Rachel!
