Paris Climate Agreement - please read - really important

http://unfccc.int/paris_agreement/items/9444.php - the Agreement is at this link. If you have not already done so

1. Scroll through the list of countries who have signed on to it, as well as the few countries who have not done so. Fairly extraordinary to read the countries who have signed on. Also to see that the countries who have not include Syria, South Sudan, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Russia, Turkey - who are we aligning ourselves with!!!!

2. Scroll through the agreement. I did looking for right to withdraw. I found Section 28 which states:

"1. At any time after three years from the date on which this Agreement has entered into force for a Party, that Party may withdraw from this Agreement by giving written notification to the Depositary.

2. Any such withdrawal shall take effect upon expiry of one year from the date of receipt by the Depositary of the notification of withdrawal, or on such later date as may be specified in the notification of withdrawal.

3. Any Party that withdraws from the Convention shall be considered as also having withdrawn from this Agreement."

Does Section 28 mean Trump cannot give notice to withdraw until 3 years after Agreement entered into force for US (entered into force on November 4, 2016 so can give notice on November 5, 2019) and that such notice of withdrawal is effective one year after notice (November 4, 2020)?? Does anyone see any other way to withdraw??

That's the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Announcing that we're rejecting the treaty would mean a withdrawal period of one year, rather than three.

It's entirely possible he'll do just that. The core theme of his presidency, after all, has been "If Obama did it, then FUCK THAT!" So, it would be entirely consistent, as well as leading to entrenched status as a pariah nation, and permanent cession of climate, scientific and technical leadership to China, the EU and Japan.

On edit - sorry forgot the link!
