Mulvaney: "We need people to go to work. We need you to go to work. We need you to go back to work."

Trump’s Budget Takes From The Safety Net, Gives To The Military
Most of the proposals will be unpopular on Capitol Hill.

The document mostly honors Trump’s unorthodox campaign promise not to cut Social Security or Medicare, but it shows how the president’s domestic agenda is being shaped by Capitol Hill Republicans eager to cancel benefits to supposedly undeserving recipients.

“We need people to go to work,” Trump’s budget director, Mick Mulvaney, said in a briefing with reporters on Monday. Mulvaney is a former member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus.

Mulvaney expounded on the meaning of “Trumponomics,” saying it’s all about rapid economic growth. This budget relies on optimistic growth projections that would help eliminate the federal deficit within 10 years. Though Trump himself hasn’t said a lot about social programs, such as food stamps and disability insurance, Mulvaney said reforming the safety net is key to achieving faster growth.

“If you’re on food stamps and you’re able-bodied, we need you to go to work,” Mulvaney said. “If you’re on disability insurance and you’re not supposed to be, if you’re not truly disabled, we need you to go back to work. We need everybody pulling in the same direction.”

Sick and tired of the foolishness. There are ways to add jobs. The environmental research area is a growing one. Train some of the troops coming home for tech and infrastructure work. Prep our millenials for tech jobs. Offer training programs. Wind and solar is expanding. Keep developing these areas.

The renewal energy field is expanding rapidly, creating good paying jobs that cannot be outsourced. The infrastructure in this country is falling apart and we don't need the Saudi's to come here and build or repair it. We seriously lack the innovation and creativity we once had in this country. So few people in power or business think in terms of long range goals, everything is a quick fix and a fast buck.

Can't "go back to work" when there's nothing to go TO.

There IS a lot of work TO be done; one only needs to look at our woefully outdated networks, our loser of a public transportation system, our whiskey-throttle financial sector and our badly crumbling infrastructure for evidence.

What there ISN'T a lot of is interest in filling the positions NEEDED for that work, but rather, finding shortcuts so more profit can be gained. This comes in the form of automation, job offshoring for cheaper labor and squeezing every last drop from your remaining workers.

and every single Repub that ran for Pres. wanted to abolish federal minimum wage.

Someone who has worked their whole adult life full time at minimum wage and gets Social Security at age 65 will have a low enough income to qualify for SSI, Food stamps and Medicaid.

Work camps for people who are unlucky, or under-educated, or of the wrong class. Take your kids along, and have them help you pay off your debts to society and pay for your sin of being too poor to buy food, medicine, or pay for housing and the education people need to succeed or add "economic growth" to this society.

And I'm sure the few people who fit his definition of truly disabled will find that the Government would rather warehouse them (and put benefits recipients to work "caring" for them&quot and maybe find some other way to add "growth" to the economy - maybe by "voluntarily" participating in federal research programs?

He and his ilk view "working" people as numbers that make up a pie chart. Totally interchangeable and disposable. Not worth the investment. And obviously, there's way too many of them dependent on "his" tax dollars.

Just the money they're pulling out of the medical sector will cause a massive shift in the medical workforce. That alone will probably put many places where medical care is the number one employer into recession. These people are stupid, evil, and bad at economics. Who voted for Trump? Seriously.

Oh, and come to think of it, while we're eliminating minimum wage, as some have suggested, let's do away with child labor laws, too. Many of these kids are on a fast track to addiction and prison anyhow. So let's just snatch them up to work in mills, factories and coal mines.

Who knew it would be so easy to solve all of our social and fiscal problems??? 🙄
