On trump supporters - it is always shocking to realize the wide gap in world view.

I recall thinking, during the Dumbya years, of the statement "I want a president that I can sit and have a beer with" - that was a real eye opener, that's for sure.

And how - this. What do people see in this one? Does he play into their innate greed - lust for wealth, lust for power - as in "I want an obscene (and obscenely wealthy) president because that means I can be obscenely wealthy some day"

Does trump hit a nerve of sexism? racism? Does he make feel better about their intellectual mediocrity - as in "wow - he is pretty dumb, but that means hope for me"? Is it the naked misogyny? Is it the lying - the utter disregard for the truth - that his supporters love so much and see in themselves?

One thing for sure - the difference between "us" and "them" is really huge - with little to no way to bridge the gulf.

When we read his words (we can't watch or listen to him), it is like a garbled form of "good night moon" in reading level. To think that there are many - including in the media! - who think to themselves "wow, that's perfect". Yikes!

Or...maybe it is just the natural culmination of years of bad reality TV - and his supporters just think that this is only another reality show....

I find the extent shocking, not that it is out there. And trump is the most extreme example. NRaleighLiberal May 2017 #4

So maybe disappointed is more apt than shocked.

I used to think they had principles and values; granted, ones with which I strongly disagreed. But still...they couched their anger in their beliefs.

Trump has manifested every single thing they've ever decried and they cheer him on.

It's sheer hatred of liberals that defines them. Nothing else.

They stand for nothing positive. They are only filled with hatred, anger and bitterness and it completely informs their worldview. There is no logic behind it, just sheer spite.
