The ex-staff member, who told CNN he is racking up legal fees after hiring an attorney in order to respond to questions from federal investigators, also said he was never paid for his work for the campaign. He requested anonymity to speak candidly.
"In many ways, the Trump associates are the real victims here," the ex-staffer said.
"The world (is) going after them and Trump (is) leaving them abandoned on the battlefield," he added. "Yet many lives will be ruined in the process."

I'm sure Trump is being advised not to pay off these people in any way. It looks like bribery. Uh-oh.

(115,869 posts)it could look like he was bribing potential witnesses (something I wouldn't put past him). The lesson here is that working for Trump has no upside. If you don't wind up in jail and/or bankrupt from paying legal fees, at best you'll have an ugly blot on your resume. Staff need to bail out ASAP because it won't get better; during and in the aftermath of Watergate, 69 government officials were charged with crimes and 48 were convicted. Run away!

(115,869 posts)maybe the less-known dogsbodies in the West Wing, aren't necessarily Trumplings but people who saw a chance to get their feet in the door in D.C. politics. To continue the dog metaphor, I think they are starting to learn that when you lie down with dogs you might get up with fleas. Some of them will not have been involved at all with this muck; others might have at least seen documents or heard conversations that could make them witnesses, if not participants.
It's easy for ambitious young people to get sucked into very bad shit before they realize how very bad it is (especially in politics), and then it can be too late to get out without consequences. But staying in usually has worse consequences. Exhibit A: John Dean.

(146,333 posts)Simple. Just spill everything you know and you'll skate. When the investigators come around, freely disclose everything you know that is true about the campaign and Trump. That is, of course, assuming that you weren't part of the corruption. If you were, well, good luck with all that, then...

I only have compassion and feelings for the countless Americans, and world citizens who are, and who will suffer from this unbearable regime.
