(2,301 posts)If they block it, it's going to look awful in 2018 after tons more incriminating evidence and behavior comes out. If they pass it, it will just accelerate the process.

(16,646 posts)They need the cooperation of some GOPers to do anything.

(94,699 posts)...there are certain procedural motions that require a vote. They can't force the House to create the Commission, but they can put all Republicans on the record opposing one.

(16,646 posts)They can just "put them on the record" as voting down a procedural motion. There's no real way to force them to vote on the specific issue at all. Otherwise the minority could bring the place to a halt. And an awful lot of those procedural motions can be handled by voice votes so no one is "on the record".

(15,805 posts)A discharge petition is a procedural tactic that allows an absolute majority of the House of Representatives (218 lawmakers) to force a floor vote on a bill, even if the Party that controls the House floor opposes it.
Now, Democrats have only 201 seats in the House, and Republicans have 234... so tell me how Pelosi is going tp push a discharge petition to force a vote?

(15,805 posts)Look, in order for this ploy to begin every single Dem in the House would need to a agree to it, including the precarious ones from red states, AND another 17 Republicans would need to jump ship and join the Democrats. Only then, when the Dems were guaranteed the minimum 218 supporting votes, could they bring a discharge petition to the floor of the House and force the members to vote on it.

(49,032 posts)Maybe it will be not be a House floor vote, but there will be a record as to who voted to vote on it.

(51,623 posts)should do anything and everything imaginable to force this thing into action ASAP! Too much is getting destroyed or changed. I watched Madoff last night and his staff even made new documents and files look old by microwaving them, staining them etc.

I don't know if they can do this, but I wonder if it was wise to accuse the "Republicans in Congress" the same as Trump.

(15,543 posts)Here's your chance to go on the record republicans.
Are you truly loyal to the United States? Or are you going to keep your eyes and mouths closed, let this one slide, and thereby in a historically epic moment FAIL the American people, and the great promise that is America.
Show us what ya got.
