Blast from the Past re: John Cornyn in 2002

The first time I heard Cornyn's name was in 2002, and I said to myself, "I'll remember that name -- he's going places." Since he's being considered to head FBI, I wondered if anyone else remembers this.

He was the Texas AG when Clifford Baxter, an Enron vice-chairman, was found dead in his car just before he was to testify about Enron. Not sure what's been scrubbed at this point, but iirc he was found in his car, without shoes but with no dampness or dirt on his feet, and there was something weird about buckshot found -- I can't remember that part.

Circumstances were VERY suspicious, but Cornyn moved quickly to certify the autopsy (iirc) and pushed to release a spurious suicide note.

Anyone else remember this?

1. I never knew, but know that the core of every Repuke is corruption. That said,

I never thought that the Repukes of the olden days would look somewhat better by comparison with the current crew.

That said #2, when Jerry FORD said, "Our long national nightmare is over" he should have added: FOR NOW. The nightmares come back in cycles and here we are.
