Explain Impeachment to me like I'm a 2nd grader

just want to get clear on this, please let me know if I am incorrect in my assumptions...

Impeachment will not "get rid" of tRump, it just means charges are being brought against the traitor. The only way to get rid of the traitor is for him to resign. Even if he is found guilty (and he is guilty) the only way to remove him from office is if he resigns.

Am I on the right track...?

1. A vote in the Senate to convict results in his immediate removal from office

A second vote might or might not be held to bar him from holding any public office, elected or appointed, in the future.

If Asshole is impeached, I think the second vote would definitely be held.

2. You're only half right.... Impeachment happens in the house - it is equivalent of an indictment

The "trial" then happens in the Senate to decide whether to remove him from office. And it takes 67 votes.

The House of Representatives brings articles of impeachment to the house and votes. If it passes, it then goes to the senate. The senate hold an impeachment trial and votes. If it passes the senate, the president is impeached and removed from office.

If he is impeached( charged) and found guilty congress can vote to remove him.

Nixon resigned because he knew he would be found guilty.

First a committee would vote for an impeachment trial by a majority vote.

Next, the full House of Representatives would vote to brings formal charges. The Senate hears the case and decided guilt or innocence by a 2/3 vote. In 1868, Andrew Johnson was not convinced by 1 vote. In 1999, the Senate acquitted Bill Clinton after 3 days and the case was dropped.

If convicted, I believe another vote would remove the President from office.

at a given moment in history. Impeachment is basically just an indictment, and the trial is held in the Senate. To convict, the constitution requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate.

11. Think of impeachment in the House as akin to an indictment.

The Senate is where the president is tried. If found guilty of the charges in the Senate by a 2/3 vote he is removed from office.

REALLY appreciate this. We certainly have an uphill battle. And i don't understand how deplorables could defend someone selling their country out, inviting blackmail and policy interference just because they fear anyone not exactly like them. i will never never get the hate. Thanks again.

14. The House Impeaches, the Senate removes from office.

Two past Presidents have been Impeached by the House of Representatives, neither was removed from office by the Senate.

If Trump is Impeached by the House and the Senate votes to remove him, he likely would be arrested if he refuses to leave office. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over the Senate trial for removal.

The Senate convicts... (serves as the jury)

Impeachment simply means that they find sufficient evidence/concern to bring the person up for trial in front of the Senate.

Two presidents have been impeached, neither was removed by the Senate.

But there's a first time for everything.
