If Trump had just a tiny smidgeon of space for love of country alongside his bloated self in his massive ego, he'd step down. Before we're all delivered to hell. If we're not there already.
Trump ran, pledging to drain the D.C. swamp. Instead he has turned it into a cesspool.
Partisanship has devolved into intolerance, chauvinism and fanaticism of the self-destructive kind. Can anyone even keep track of which side we're supposed to be on anymore? Trump once loved James Comey, the FBI director he fired and now despises. Democrats once hated Comey, now he's St. James the Martyr. Switching sides can be a lovely thing when it's the result of honest contemplation. Not this. Instead, the rank and file--including the media--of both sides dependably and mindlessly follow the lead.

Everything that Trump says adds another bucket of excrement to the cesspool. He can't learn to keep his mouth shut because something offended his haughty, infallible person-san. He has undercut the people who signed on to his administration in good faith because they thought they could help. He has forced partisans deeper into their corners, cloaked in rigid postures that cannot be abandoned. He has brought to the White House a new level of incompetence, from his first day in office when he signed an executive order so hastily and poorly drawn that it was ripe for a court challenge. He imagined that sitting in the Oval Office required only his deal-making prowess, only to discover that its multiple jobs can be "tough." (Add naive to the list of his flaws.) When he has done the right thing (and yes, he has done a few things right), it's as if he had stumbled into it or his aides had done it behind his back. Ultimately, his flawed personality will dominate, endangering his own agenda.
