in contemporary American history. A Russian official mocked the firing of our FBI director in front of the entire world today. Honestly -- to think of how this looks in the eyes of the world -- our president abruptly fires the leader of a major investigation involving his highest team-members and very possibly/probably himself. Then he meets with Russians the next day and excludes the American press from the meetings! The rampant abuse of our gov by Trump officials is beyond belief. I can't even watch most of the news as any willingness to pretend that Trump's behavior is in any way normal or acceptable is just terrifying. Trump and Tillerson, our president and Secretary of State, met with two Russian officials with whom they DID NOT HAVE TO MEET TODAY AND REFUSED TO ALLOW AMERICAN PRESS AT THE MEETINGS. On top of that Trump met with Henry Kissinger, playing up the Nixon links deliberately since he appears to be luxuriating in Nixon comparisons.
The pictures of Trump very enthusiastically shaking the hand of the Russian ambassador Kisylak (Putin "asked" Trump to meet with Kisylak -- there was no obvious legitimate need for Trump to meet with the notorious spy recruiter today) are from foreign press since our own press was denied entry. Trump is saying fuck you to the press and to the American people.
Yesterday our FBI director was fired under the most absurd pretenses, and I find that the pundits and various teevee personalities who even entertain the legitimacy of Comey's firing at this moment, with the blatantly obvious motivations made quite clear in Trump's repeated requests for "assurances" and "loyalty" from Comey, are not facing the terrible seriousness of this mess. The American people deserve better -- our election was compromised by a foreign government, and Trump couldn't be more indifferent to this travesty. We have a president who is completely out of control and violating our rules (and laws if everything is true) quite brazenly, and our press and politicians seem unable to stop him. Of course there are republicans who are clearly putting party above the country but even they must sense that this can't be good for the future of the Republican Party.
And now Russian officials are openly mocking us.
