TPM a very dark and perilous moment

Into the Abyss: Trump Fires Comey

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein wrote the memo articulating the argument for why James Comey should be fired. . . . As an argument in the abstract to justify why Comey could be fired, it’s an interesting argument. As an explanation of why Comey was in fact fired it is flatly ridiculous. . . . It’s obvious that this a rationale and not an explanation.

. . .

Whatever his reputation to this point, Rosenstein has zero credibility to run this investigation. The taint of corruption and disgrace on him permanent and irreversible.

Here’s the fundamental issue facing the country right now.

. . . The White House didn’t realize how big a deal this was. In the final analysis I think this will be judged a major miscalculation – just not in the sense they mean. Frankly, no one is that naive. It doesn’t wash.

There is only one reasonable conclusion that can be drawn from the decision to fire Comey: that there is grave wrongdoing at the center of the Russia scandal and that it implicates the President. As I write this, I have a difficult time believing that last sentence myself. But sometimes you have to step back from your assumptions and simply look at what the available evidence is telling you. It’s speaking clearly: the only reasonable explanation is that the President has something immense to hide and needs someone in charge of the FBI who he believes is loyal. Like Jeff Sessions. Like Rod Rosenstein.

This is a very dark and perilous moment.

Giuliani reportedly had a lot of connections within the ranks of the FBI and he used them to spread certain stories.

the orange shitgibbon would choose. Ghouliani would bury any investigation into tRump's collusion with Russia, and do everything within his power to protect his golden goose.

The media should be all over this, making the case why Ghouliani would be a horrible choice in order to poison the well for tRump's choice for FBI Director. Ghouliani would have a very difficult time answering questions from Senate Democrats as to WHY he would be a good choice for Director. He's as crooked as a blind fence builder, and should in no way be considered for the position. You can bet the house that ANYONE tRump suggests for the position is going to be a tRump loyalist though.

he just puts the facts into focus.

There is no other explanation for Trump Firing Comey but to mess with the investigation.

put the Oath of Office and their love of country before their love of Party.

The last time we came this close to a true Constitutional Crisis, when the President of the US refused to obey the lawful ruling of SCOTUS, the Republicans put Country before Party.

Will they find the same courage and integrity this time?

Pray to whatever higher power you believe in that they do. If not it is the end of the USA as we have known it all our lives.

has neither courage, or - especially- integrity. In the Nixon years Republicans weren't quite the unconscionable shit stains our current bunch of reprobate Republicans are. There's going to be a YUGE amount of soul searching going on, which is difficult when you have no soul to begin with.

Action is he wanted Yates out of the headlines. So, the Tangerine Turd fired the Director of the FBI.

I do believe this explanation, even though it's breathtakingly shallow and short-sighted, may be the totality of the reasoning behind the action at hand. Because it fits the established pattern of craziness and escalation we are witnessing from an increasingly unstable administration who's drives are capturing the narrative, revenge, and aggrandizement of the self.

Our biggest question of the moment is what are we going to do about it? Nothing? Hit the streets in protest? Demand an explanation from our elected representatives? What?

The other most shallow reason I've heard this evening is that Trump was jealous cause Jim Comey was getting better ratings during these past few weeks than he was. That is flat out unbelievable.

No, one of Trump's most oft repeated campaign promises was that he would "lock her up" and that right there is why he's done this. Jim Comey failed to do his bidding, in the end...he's made the Don look bad to his supporters.

Whoever Comey's replacement may be, I'd bet it's a guarantee that they'll be one rabid Sec. Clinton hater.

The investigations have been steadily getting warmer and warmer, subpoenas even issued now to verify if any cash was stuffed into that thimble, the exact design and size of it, then, suddenly, right before the searchers are red hot and shout "I spy", the thimble-hider leaps up (like a two-year), grabs it from its in-plain-sight perch, and swallows the damn thing right down his gullet.

Let's all hope now that he chokes on it.
