RepublicanCare is a scam

There are a lot of reasons why it is a scam but let us focus on one of the most disturbing comments made over and over again by republicans and is almost never challenged:

"We are getting the government out of your healthcare"

Are you kidding me, this law would be the most intrusive interjection of government in healthcare ever.

It will cut hundreds of billions from healthcare. It will allow states to drop Medicaid and most importantly to drop any and all essential services in healthcare.

What are essential services? Everything from hospitalization to prenatal care.

Seriously, what the fuck is the point of healthcare that doesn't cover hospitalization? Pregnancy? Emergency room visits? Wellness checks? Mental health? Drug addiction?

Come on, this not a law for less government but for the ultimate intrusion of government in our lives and deciding for us what healthcare our insurance will cover and care that we "have access to" but completely unaffordable.

Millions of people who will die without it or become homeless, will take time off work to vote for Ryan or someone like him.

Therefore, we are...

I don't think that this is the way to attack the ridiculous policy. We play into the hands of the Republicans if we stipulate that government involvement in healthcare is not a positive thing.

The law is precisely about less intervention by the Federal government into health care in general, and that is the problem. Republicans are trying to strip out protections that were enacted by the Federal government which forced insurance providers to standardize coverage in order to receive subsidy and support from the ACA.

The problem with the Republican bill is that it allows the insurance companies to return to practices that were forbidden by federal law. Of course States can maintain those laws and provisions, but they will not have the weight of the Federal government or the financial support to enforce the provisions. What this means is basically, big and powerful states like California and New York, may be able to maintain some of the best of the ACA, because they do not necessarily rely on Federal subsidy, but other states will be at the mercy of the "free market".

The billions that you say will be cut are from the government and were the carrot that kept the insurers in the game.

What we need to be arguing is that basic healthcare is not a commodity to be bought an sold on the market. If you want a new nose, or new breasts, or some other elective surgery that has nothing to do with your medical health, then I say that you can shell out a bit more out of pocket to get those services, but everyone should be able to go to their doctor when they are really sick without worrying about losing everything.
