(Reuters) - A large trove of emails from the campaign of French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron was posted online late on Friday, 1-1/2 days before voters go to the polls to choose the country's next president in a run-off against far-right rival Marine Le Pen.
Some nine gigabytes of data were posted by a user called EMLEAKS to Pastebin, a document-sharing site that allows anonymous posting. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for posting the data or if any of them were genuine.
In a statement, Macron's political movement En Marche! (Onwards!) confirmed that it had been hacked.
"The En Marche! Movement has been the victim of a massive and co-ordinated hack this evening which has given rise to the diffusion on social media of various internal information," the statement said.
Sound familiar?

Why middle class white Americans want Nazi's and fascists taking over our government, I simply dont know

(23,337 posts)that he was confident that the Russians were still involved in USA politics. So now they are ass deep in France's beeswax too. Big freaking surprise. How will this end? Who will end it? We will not be able to pull out any victory in 2018 until they are stopped.

(61,698 posts)Of russian meddling before they'll even consider it was a factor in our election. I hate that it is hapoening to Macron. But I'm glad it is becoming clear that it does happen, and by whom. Now people need to wise up about motivation.

People on the Left who don't want to see that the Russian thumb decided our election are unwittingly providing cover for Putin.
I wonder how much money also has been coming in from foreign actors to sway elections.
How will the French react?

(51,627 posts)When will the partisan politicians realize that this is extremely important and stop focusing on their glorious leader's possible involvement with his campaign and the three branches of our government which they control? They'd rather risk global democracy than winning/losing a few votes. Party over country is business as usual with the morally corrupt GOP. Russia is winning and they are paving the way...time for another celebration like after ACA "win".

(297,655 posts)another.. it has to turn around sometime.
Here's to it doing it sooner. I think I would write my emails like I know they can be hacked by assholes and make sure it's something I wouldn't mind the whole world seeing.

(19,567 posts)I've worked for companies before where that was standard, and I suspect that's going to become a much larger assumed thing now.
No matter how careful we are, there's someone out there every minute of everyday trying to find a way to breach our defenses. For most of us that's an inconvenience, but if you're a potential world leader then it's a a whole other thing.
I predict they'll be switching to a more secure, tailor made, system for sensitive national elections ASAP.
Go bullish on cyber security companies is the best I have.
