Threatened With Jail, for Refusing to Give Up Child's Seat
A California family says they were kicked off a flight and threatened with jail for the adults and "foster care" for the children for refusing to give up a seat for their 2-year-old son, despite having paid for it, in the latest controversy for a major airline that was caught on video.....
An airline employee is then heard telling him, "So this is a federal offense. You and your wife could be in jail and your kids will be in foster care."
"We're going to be in jail and my kids are going to be what?" Schear interrupted.
The Schears said they were then forced to find their own hotel, transportation and purchase new tickets for a flight the next day all after midnight.

I didn't know flight attendants were allowed to give legal advise as well.

(27,172 posts)Refusing to obey the orders of Flight Attendants is against federal law. So, they were technically accurate. If the husband and wife were both in jail, the kids would go to foster care until their legal guardian was identified.

(583 posts)Was not purchased for the 2 year old, it was purchased for an older kid they had sent on an earlier flight. When the kid didn't check in, delta resold the seat, as is there right to do. Tickets are not transferable, especially when you don't inform the airline.

(40,220 posts)Delta apologized and issued a statement that the family should not have been removed from the flight. Delta also stated that the flight attendant misrepresented Delta policy. Delta has so far reimbursed them the additional expenses and are still in contact with the family.
