Who's got a flag flying today?

I'm just curious. Mine is out flying, as it is on all national holidays.

I disagree with it, though. A flag represents whatever an individual thinks it represents. For me the flag is a symbol of the revolutionary spirit that got this country started. It's especially fitting that it flies on this particular holiday, I think.

I think it stands for nationalism and the whole (uncensored) history of the United States.

Revolutionary spirit, nationalism, the entire history of the country...
There is good and bad in all of those, not all nationalism is bad and there are great chunks of our collective history that are not good.

It is all of those things together that create the potential for what good we can do. We saw glimmers of that post 9/11 until George II squandered the opportunity for the U.S. and the world to leap to something better. I like to believe, with a lot of work, we can still achieve what was missed.

A UK officer was the referee. The coin toss went as follows:

"In honor of the American holiday we will use a United States quarter for the toss. Tails has the eagle emblem of the United states whereas heads bears the likeness of the insurrectionist leader George Washington."

UK won 4-1

When I was a little girl, my dad told me the story of the Battle of Fort McHenry during the war of 1812.

I've a lot of respect for the flag.

We could put one up for ourselves, but it is not high on our priority list.

When we lived at the house before this one, we planned on putting up a flag pole, but never got around to it.
