(11,258 posts)The oft cited statistics that the majority of this country think healthcare should be a right do not seem to include studies that ask this question (in more subtle unbiased ways). I bet a lot of deplorables would say "Yes! Single Payer for a hardworking salt of the earth American like me makes sense!" Then they might imagine some inner city black people benefitting - forcing them to reconsider. If only they would stand together with the non-billionaires, they might just get healthcare as a right.
I used to find it odd that in Europe, far right was defined as nationalistic and hardcore racist - not defined by taking away healthcare etc. now I do understand it because the European deplorables don't want to eliminate healthcare and other benefits in general - they just want to eliminate the benefits for non-natives...or they just want to eliminate the non-natives altogether.

(47,209 posts)They'd not go like that too much. Could be enough to tank the whole thing. We need you guys to be unequivocal for this- too many men think it's okay to be silent when they need it too! You want no kids? You want kids someday? Choice people- it's for all adults benefit.

(11,258 posts)It is very easy to imagine reproductive rights tanking the whole thing as you say.
This is probably a harder problem to solve than the racism problem. The faux "christians" in this country are a huge problem. Europe doesn't have nearly as big a problem with that group of winners.
How can I help?

(47,209 posts)Shy away from- and I truly believe it's only this squishy hesitancy to delve into "women's matters" that leaves them ignorant as to the idea that women having options and choices leave us all - men included!!- better off. No one wants "accidents" or STDs, men too want the ability to "plan" for kids when the time is right- or plan for none. They should want healthy happy partners, sisters, friends who aren't "trapped by the system". The same people closing clinics leaving little to no choice in some southern states are also fighting the OTC morning after pill (which HRC helped get us) as well as subsidized birth control leaving it out of reach for many women - a leading cause of children in poverty. These services save us money and keep our noses out of private decisions. All good things!
Conversely - the men fighting this are the ones who basically want to be able to trap women and limit their options. They can't have equal relationships with women and seek to use this as a way to hobble them or put them in their place. Perhaps the idea that you have to be a weak ass fool to support this controlling crap is a tack that will work on some.
But please back us up- and encourage your male friends to be vocal about it too. We want to move away from the influence of church values when it comes to sex and family planning for the good of all society. It helps you guys plan better as well- and to stay healthy!
Thanks for asking. As many times as I have said this (dozens) I don't think any guy has ever asked how. I appreciate that!
