A sizeable portion of US are clueless--45% have no idea what happened with ACA

The entire country wasn't as riveted as us political junkies last week, when the Supreme Court handed down an historic ruling on the Affordable Care Act, on the limits of the reach of the federal government, on states' rights, on the course of the future for one-sixth of the nation's economy. According to hot-off-the-presses polling from Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, a very large chunk of people really didn't know what happened with the ruling.

Despite extensive public interest in the court’s ruling, just 55% of the public knows that the Supreme Court upheld most of the health care law’s provisions; 45% say either that the court rejected most provisions (15%) or do not know what the court did (30%). Among those aware that the court upheld most of the law, 50% approve of the decision while 42% disapprove.

And naturally among those who actually pay attention a majority approve of the decision.

1. The right has very successfully made "Obamacare" a scare word.

And the wing nuts use it incessantly whenever they can. I was in a terminal meeting yesterday and a known wing nut belched out the term in a negative context. No one responded or laughed in agreement, but at least he did his part for the cause I suppose.
My MIL was asking my wife what I thought of the SC decision. She's a typical Faux News, low information republi-religious conservative. She knows I'm a liberal Democrat. She told my wife she knows nothing about the law and was wondering what all the fuss was about. I explained to my wife how it is that since she consumes Faux News, she naturally wouldn't know the details of the law. So I went to AARP's website and printed off as much information as I could for her and told her to read it all for herself.

2. I would like to see the disapproval numbers broken down like this

If you voted that you don't approve do you:

a. not approve of the bill in it's entirety

b. see this as the federal government encroaching on states rights

c. mostly approve, but have at least one major issue with the bill.

d. mostly disapprove, but there are a few things that you would like to keep in the bill.

e. you were one of those people that clapped when the question was if we should let the uninsured die.
