(1,296 posts)Trump is not crazy, delusional, or mentally ill. He seems that way only because we expect people to talk about what they actually believe. Trump is a sane person who has a deeply ingrained habit of constantly lying.
The disarray in government comes from him lying about how well he understands the subjects he needs to make decisions about. He presents himself as having a firm policy when he does not, and then confuses people when he takes in new information from somebody, and changes his mind. He finds this much easier to do than a normal Republican ideologue, because his previous opinion was one he had no personal investment in -- he didn't actually care about the subject enough to learn about it, he only picked a position that would sound good, and get a good audience reaction at a rally.
As for the Andrew Jackson mess, normal people read that as deluded misunderstanding of history. It is nothing of the kind. That whole message was straight-up pandering to white supremacists. To them, it's perfectly clear and sensible.
