Ex-House speaker Dennis Hastert stripped of Illinois pension

An Illinois retirement board voted on Wednesday to end pension payments to the disgraced former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert for his years of service in the Illinois General Assembly.

The state’s General Assembly Retirement System’s board of trustees, which is made up of state lawmakers, voted 5-2 to terminate $755 in monthly payments Hastert was receiving for his three terms in the Illinois House of Representatives, according to Tim Blair, the board's executive secretary.

Hastert, the former GOP House Speaker, is serving a 15-month federal prison sentence for bank fraud related to an attempt to cover up hush-money payments he was making to a former student he sexually abused during his time as a high school wrestling coach and teacher more than 35 years ago.

It appears so anyway. I recall reading about "rumors" that he had abused kids when he was a coach/teacher years before he left the House.

torturing confessions out of young black men had run out. They proved he did for decades and it didn't matter.

The judge made it clear he was being sentenced because of his position. The bank was not "frauded". He withdrew his own money in such a way to avoid bank reporting requirements to the federal government. The bank lost no money. He was also convicted of lying to federal investigators about the purpose of his withdrawals.

An ordinary person would have been given probation in a case like this assuming no prior convictions.
