And I agree, FGM threads are not the place for that discussion.

(14,861 posts)2. It shouldn't be done to children without a compelling medical reason.
That said, you can't have a discussion about FGM comparing it to male circumcision. One reason is that the term FGM is almost meaningless. Male circumcision means one thing and one thing only. FGM means anything from a pinprick to draw a drop of blood all the way to total removal of the clitoris and/or destruction of the vulva. Most people tend to think of the very worst forms of it and assume that is what was done in every single case.
