(5,003 posts)Hate him for voting 90% of time with that devil Pelosi. He voted for cap and trade and Obamacare and all those bad things. He did apologize for his vote re abortion (like Clinton apologized for her vote for the Iraq war) and since voted against defunding Planned Parenthood. He opposes the pipelines planned for VA unlike Northampton who supports them. He did get a 2019 endorsement from the NRA but since then supports tighter regulation in Virginia and a ban on high-capacity magazines.
They are both good candidates I think, but I tend to lean away from establishment candidates so will be curious how this plays out.

(182,947 posts)Anything to have of off Gillespie. He'll probably go right after the state employee retirements.

(45,553 posts)When running for office as a member of the Democratic party, how about running AGAINST the Republicans and conservatives instead of attacking the party?
Look at what is about to happen in Virginia. McAullife's term as Governor is up and he's prevented from running again due to VA law.
Lieutenant Governor, Ralph Northam is running and Tom Perriello, former U.S. Representative is entering the race. Both are excellent candidates. Both would make great Governors. Both have solid progressive records. At some point, the national far-left will notice this race, select one candidate, and begin to demonize the other. An inter-party fight might lead to Republican Puke, Ed Gillespie winning.

(5,003 posts)May have a different perspective than you as you live there. But disliking someone ifor their support of TPP or his messy finagling into directing a union into legal and financial "noodling" or leading the DNC into a more corporatist donor base isn't bashing. Im not a big fan of the DLC. Or are we no longer allowed opinions different than yours?

Three months later, Virginia's Supreme Court overruled McAuliffe, saying he didn't have the authority to grant "blanket, group pardons" and that he would have to do so individually.
McAuliffe quickly vowed to do so, and has restored the rights to more than 67,000 former felons since the July decision, according to Sam Coleman, his spokesman. Coleman added that of these, nearly 21,000 have registered to vote.

"Seeking to drape himself in the mantle of Barack Obama in his Virginia gubernatorial race, former Rep. Tom Perriello on Wednesday began circulating a letter showing support from more than two dozen members of the former presidents staff, according to a copy obtained by POLITICO.
Among the 29 signers: Obamas 2008 campaign manager David Plouffe; former White House deputy chief of staff Nancy-Ann DeParle; former White House Senior Adviser Dan Pfeiffer; former White House Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri; former White House deputy senior adviser, Stephanie Cutter; former White House social secretary Julianna Smoot; former White House Domestic Policy Council Director Cecilia Muñoz; and former White House director of political affairs, Patrick Gaspard, fresh off a stint as the U.S. ambassador to South Africa..."
"Perriello lost in 2010 to GOP Rep. Robert Hurt by 4 percentage points. Obama campaigned for him the weekend before the election, making Perriello the only House member to get a personal political visit from the president.
Other signers of Wednesday's letter include: Tina Tchen, the former chief of staff to Michelle Obama; former White House director of legislative affairs, Amy Rosenbaum; former White House Office of Public Engagement Director Jon Carson; former White House director of Media Affairs, Christina Reynolds; former Obama campaign Digital Director Teddy Goff; and former Obama campaign director of Paid Media, Larry Grisolano."
