A letter in the local paper thanked our useless R member of Congress for "giving his support for a $414 million increase for federal Alzheimer's research funding for fiscal 2018."
Really? I thought that the Whiny Donny administration is cutting funding for science in general. This is why we are having a march for science this Saturday.

Anyone knows?

It could even be a case of "bring home the bacon".

(6,916 posts)The bill passed in December promised increased funding for Alzheimer's research in 2018.
But that funding is a two step process. The money must be included in the 2018 budget.
So far there is no budget for this year. The government is on a continuing resolution, meaning they are extending the 2016 budget month to month. That resolution expires at the end of April.
That's why budget and shutdown talks are happening now. Democrats want to increase science funding with the 2017 budget. Republicans want to destroy the government to cut taxes on the rich. They may just agree to extend the 2016 budget till the end of 2017. And they may agree to cut or freeze research funding in 2018, which would mean that promised Alzheimer's funding would disappear.

(47,486 posts)is fund research. This is science, after all, the one that proves that the earth is not 6000 years old, that humans did not walk the earth with the dinosaurs, that climate change is destroying us..
