"Trump will be an insignificant Do-Nothing-President."

No political leanings, no vision...
No passion for the job...
Needs a golf-vacation almost every weekend to unwind mentally from the stress...
And the only thing Trump is getting half-way done so far is reversing the work of his predecessor.

-------------------------------

http://www.businessinsider.de/trump-do-nothing-presidency-2017-4?r=US&IR=T

The implosion of the American Health Care Act has left Trump with Barack Obama's healthcare policy, not George Bush's. Trump healthcare policy change: nothing.

...

Republicans in Congress still have no agreement for a vision on taxes, and the White House doesn't have a plan of its own. Trump has mused about the possibility of working with Democrats on taxes, but they'll be reluctant to hand him any victories and have settled on the line that they can't change the tax code until we've seen Trump's tax returns, because otherwise we won't know whether the deal is designed to benefit him.

Tax reform dies for all sorts of good reasons, and this administration looks even less organized on the issue than those that have failed to reform the tax code in the past. My bet on a Trump tax legacy: nothing.

...

Last month, the White House circulated a Trumpist "skinny budget," with ideas like sharply cutting spending on the National Institutes of Health and the State Department to fund military expansion and construction of a border wall. Congress is preparing to summarily ignore this budget.
...
The spending bill to keep the government open past April 28 will need to get 60 votes in the Senate, which means it will need Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's approval
...
Of course, Trump could veto such a spending bill, but the news website Axios reports that the White House is in "no mood" for the government shutdown that would ensue. Likely federal spending outlook: nothing terribly different from if Hillary Clinton had won.

...

But what would a "conventional Republican" trade policy look like? Probably the pursuit of multilateral trade agreements that Republican presidents used to favor until they became associated with Obama.

Do you really think Trump will negotiate a free trade agreement with the EU? It seems a lot more likely to me that he will do nothing.

...

Trump has, so far, not demonstrated the attention span for a ground war. A man who figured out it was best to rent his name and let other people deal with the messy business of actual high-rise construction will probably get the logic of launching the occasional airstrike and leaving most of the ground fighting to proxy forces.

I might be wrong — and future external events could push Trump into a ground war somewhere, just as they could with any other president. But so far, the president's main foreign-policy departures from Obama are (1) offending a bunch of foreign leaders, and (2) launching one airstrike against Assad. This looks more like "nothing" than "neocon" to me.

...

Not all presidents have a major legacy. Warren Harding wasn't important; neither was Gerald Ford or Jimmy Carter.

I remain worried that a foreign crisis will be foisted on Trump and that his mishandling of it will get us all killed in a nuclear war. If that happens, his presidency will be very important.

But if it doesn't, I don't see Trump posting a lot of "wins."
I see him making Carter look dynamic and accomplished by comparison.

1. Carter's presidency had its issues, but Camp David peace accord is not "nothing".

AFAIK, the only lasting peace agreement between Israel and an Arab or Muslim country from the region.

And not to disparage Carter the person, either. It sounds like part of the reason he didn't get much done is he pissed off the Democratic Congress because he wouldn't go along with their pork plans.

2. He'll sign anything put in front of him

That's why the GOP wants him around. But the GOP is so dysfunctional, they can't put together legislation as they've been do nothing for over a decade. I blame the GOP Congress first. All Trump has to do is sign. Now his office isn't advancing any legislation as they think executive orders work. They are weak. Most have no legal authority.

I place the blame on the GOP for not offering legislation to sign. He'll sign it. He's basically an invalid. It's like placing colorful balloons in front of him. Our government only works with Democrats in charge.

3. The Republicans believe they are heroes. And heroes don't function without an enemy.

I've seen the same mindset on some people here on DU. They define themselves via their opponent.
There are upstanding liberals fighting against US imperialism, whether it makes sense or not.
There are upstanding conservatives fighting against the twisted morals of anything democratic, whether it makes sense or not.

But if you confront those liberals with the good things the US has done around the world...
Or if you confront those conservatives with ideas they used to like until the Democrats adopted them (e.g. Romneycare) ...

I love it when they eat their own. It's wonderful that so many in the Republican Party are unhappy with their president. They deserve one another.

The theme of the article-- that the Trump Presidency will be ineffectual-- is terrific and is a not-so-bad future. As the author points out, as long as Trump doesn't get us into a nuclear war, he'll go down in history as an inconsequential president. It could be worse!

Carter had the Panama Canal Treaty and the Camp David Accords.

and they just need to sit back & relax..,
Nothing will be accomplished therefore nothing BAD will really happen.
No need to waste your time protesting and resisting... it really isn't necessary because remember: Nothing will get accomplished-- just chalk it up to a 4 year holding period...
Then it will all be ok...

FUCK THAT NONSENSE!!!

With Every minute that ticks by ...
Democracy, Civil Liberties, and Constitutional Rights are further eroded...
which is the true objective of the current administration ...

So yeah...
I bet Repug 45 would love to have us be complacent and idly stand by as we anxiously await the next election....
Only to find that our Democracy, Civil Liberties, and Constitutional Rights have washed out to sea...
