(2,678 posts)Sure, and Trump was once liberal! I don't believe either one. Issa is very conservative and Trump never was liberal. He did fake it, though.

(6,398 posts)Its better than Governor Issa. Arnold cock blocked him from that spot.... hey, he does know how to use that appendage.

(6,398 posts)I remember the debate, he came off as unsure at one end..then condescending at the other. Not the way to win. Davis made some bad missteps in the eyes of the public (if you or I disagree, its irrelevant in the court of public opinion...but lets face it, if the GOP didn't have its head so far up its ass, they would have put Riordon against Davis instead of ultra conservative Simon and won...in fact, the Democratic Party was already running ads, etc. against him before he got the nomination as it seemed he would be the GOP nominee). Bustamante should have said to hell with walking the wire, and went for Arnolds and Davis jugular. Instead he was apologetic for Davis while dismissing Arnold's populism, and hence the voters anger. Davis was done and Issa tried to capitalize on it. Bustamante should have recognized the same.
The only person who seemed to understand that the Democratic party was out of touch (hell, they ran a candidate against Arnold's second term that seemed like he was running against Bush and he trashed Nixon, like it or not, a California Native) was Brown. He avoided criticizing Arnold for the most part and when he ran again, he brought ideas that were receptive.
And yes, Bustamante could have won against Issa, if he was playing to win it, and he wasn't. So the contest was ultimately Arnold vs. Davis.

(6,398 posts)Once Arnold threw his hat in, it sucked everything out of his momentum. Issa was going to ride the anger against Davis...Arnold did that and courted moderate Dems. Issa was done as Davis. This was probably the last and for a very long time a Repub could get the Governors chair for a long time...and he knew it.
He wasn't going to be Governor, no chance in hell at Senator...so he probably cried himself to sleep knowing that his aspirations for higher office at minimum were stunted.

(6,690 posts)the term has been twisted beyond all reason. By today's definition he's most certainly conservative.
But there is absolutely nothing traditional, frugal, or common sense about any of the "conservatives" anymore. Those values are owned lock stock and barrel by the "progressives" nowadays.
We are the ones championing workers, families, children, sanctity of the home, freedom to live in peace so long as it doesn't hurt someone else, frugality of all sorts, inclusiveness, growth of opportunity - economic and otherwise, freedom to worship or not according the dictates of one's heart..... and all the other "traditional" values of American life. We are the real conservatives if you go by the "traditional" definition.
The only thing Issa champions these days is hate, bigotry, greed, more hate and more greed. They are so twisted in thinking it takes tremendous effort to see any shred of humanity in them

(3,148 posts)Mike Levin has been all over social media and done an appearance on AM Joy. Issa would never say something like. His internal polling must be showing he's vulnerable.
Anyway, I really like Levin and how he is running his campaign.
