WASHINGTON — The system of buses and vans that ferry Omahans from point A to point B daily is in for a $2 million modernization, courtesy of federal taxpayers.

It’s part of $29 million in transportation grants federal officials announced Monday.

The Iowa Department of Transportation was awarded $1.5 million for its own statewide project to create a “one-call/one-click” system to provide the public with transportation information.

Federal officials highlighted the benefits to veterans and their families from the grants funding 64 projects in 33 states. Still, the Nebraska and Iowa funding is expected to benefit all riders.

The bus I rode last year to the College World Series in Omaha was paid for by stimulus money!
