DNC Announces Members Of Unity Reform Commission

Last edited Tue Apr 18, 2017, 01:33 PM - Edit history (1)

WASHINGTON ― Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez announced the complete list of people on the 21-member Unity Reform Commission on Monday.

The panel was created at the party’s national convention in July as a last-minute compromise between supporters of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and those of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who were demanding the elimination of super-delegates from presidential primaries. The commission will now begin the process of discussing reforms to the party’s presidential nominating process, including hot-button issues like the role of super-delegates and caucuses. It will present its recommendations to the DNC by January 2018.

The 21-member commission includes nine members selected by Clinton, seven members picked by Sanders, three picked by Perez, and the chair and vice chair ― selected by Clinton and Sanders, respectively.

Below is a complete list of the commission members:

Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Chair, District of Columbia; partner, Precision Strategies

Larry Cohen, Vice Chair, District of Columbia; chair of Our Revolution and former president of the Communication Workers of America

Charlie Baker, Massachusetts; president of Dewey Square Group and former chief administrative officer of the Clinton campaign

Jan Bauer, Iowa; Iowa Democratic National Committeewoman and Clinton supporter

Jeff Berman, District of Columbia, former Clinton campaign consultant

Lucy Flores, California, former Nevada Assemblywoman and Sanders supporter

Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), Clinton supporter

Maya Harris, New York, former senior policy adviser, Clinton campaign

David Huynh, Louisiana; former Clinton campaign director of delegate operations and ballot access

Elaine Kamarck, Massachusetts; senior fellow, Brookings Institution

Jane Kleeb, Nebraska Democratic Party Chair; Sanders supporter and Our Revolution board member

Nomiki Konst, New York; investigative reporter for the Young Turks and former Sanders convention delegate

Yvette Lewis, Maryland Democratic National Committeewoman and Clinton supporter

Gus Newport, California; former mayor of Berkeley, California and Sanders supporter

Jorge Neri, Illinois; former Clinton campaign Nevada state director

James Roosevelt, Jr., Massachusetts; president of Tufts Health Plan and co-chair of the Democratic national convention Rules and Bylaws Committee

Emmy Ruiz, Texas; former Clinton campaign Colorado state director

Former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner, Sanders convention delegate and Our Revolution board member

Jeff Weaver, Virginia; former Sanders campaign chair

Wellington Webb, Colorado; former Denver mayor and Clinton supporter

Jim Zogby, District of Columbia; founder of the Arab American Institute and Sanders supporter

My thoughts:

1. I can't go into detail without getting deleted, but I will say that Weaver, Konst and Turner are liabilities to this commission and I mean Cornel West-sized liabilities...

2. Nice of the author to interview two Sanders folks, one of whom still has an axe to grind from the primaries, and the other is chasing "Hillary's unseen hand of power" -conspiracies... I have a sneaking suspicion there's not going to be a lot of "unity" here...

1. No way in hell should we get rid of super delegates.

If we do that, we will end up with weak candidates who lose in landslides. We have had that in the past.

The repubbies regret that they did not have super delegates. At least the sane ones regret it.

Also, we should do away with caucuses. No more undemocratic, non-representative caucuses! There was too much bullying, from all the reports I have seen from friends and family around the country.

Let's have closed primaries where people have to register AHEAD OF TIME and by party.

I hope some of the names mentioned as liabilities have little or no influence. I have seen enough bullying to last lifetime, and it is still taking place. I have seen it in my own county central committee. I have seen it at some of the grassroots organizations. I have spoken up and I will continue to do so.

... NO OPEN PRIMARIES!!

If someone wants to participate in PARTY activities, then they should JOIN THE FUCKING PARTY!

If they are so indecisive and unable to commit... if they don't think enough of Democrats or the Democratic Party to bother joining, then they can just sit on the sidelines until the actual party members have made a decision, thank you very much.

2. O'Malley Dillon (member of the consulting class), Baker (president of Dewey Square Group

which worked with the health insurance industry to undermine health reform efforts in 2009, helped Countrywide rip off minority homeowners, worked with Enron and Citigroup, etc.), and Berman (former Keystone pipeline & Geo Group lobbyist) are the weak links in this bunch. There's some great people on here though. Jane Kleeb, Marcia Fudge, Larry Cohen, Lucy Flores, Maya Harris. I'm excited for Nomiki Konst as well. She's a tough as nails progressive fighter.

4. You must know her personally, because Konst is a piece of shit

I've gotten to know her well on Twitter, and I'll leave it at that...

And since she writes for the revamped GOP-friendly TYT, she's facing a huge conflict of interest now... Nothing is stopping her from stealing all the salacious dirt that she can from her commission meetings and blabbing it to the world and undermining the party further, which I suspect is her primary mission...

5. You must not follow her too well because she said she will not be reporting

on the meetings since she is involved in them. Pretty common sense.

We all like different things though, no worries. I can see how she is controversial since she doesn't fall in line and doesn't fear questioning the party when need be. I quite appreciated her insight during the 2016 primary campaign (where she was pretty spot on, much more so than the corporate media was) as well as the DNC race (which very few people were actually covering).

I know because she blocked me when I pointed them out to her directly...

She's just there to get her pound of flesh from the party for not nominating Bernie, and then not making Ellison chair...

And here she is fucking CHEERING Ossoff's loss:
